President Obama, America's Nero
Townhall.com ^ | February 17. 2015 | Cal Thomas

Posted on 02/17/2015 4:45:55 AM PST by Kaslin

President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Speak softly, and carry a big stick." More than a century later, President Barack Obama speaks loudly (and incessantly) and carries a twig.

Like Nero of ancient Rome, Obama fiddles, takes selfies and does Internet interviews while the world burns. Is he trying to distract himself, or us? To use a sports analogy, is he trying to "run out the clock" and leave office before terrorist fires consume us?

We have a president who is mismatched to the times in which we live. He is unserious when seriousness is required. The tyrants of the world have taken notice and rightly calculated they can pretty much do what they want without paying a heavy penalty.

The administration is pleased about a "ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, negotiated by the leaders of France and Germany, but even they are skeptical Russian President Vladimir Putin will abide by it. Why should he? Who's to stop him from solidifying his land grab in Eastern Ukraine, not to mention Crimea, which he has already "digested" with little response other than sanctions? For now he seems willing to endure them.

This does not bode well for a negotiated deal with Iran over that country's nuclear weapons program. Iran's mullahs don't believe they will pay much of a price for lying to the West about constructing a nuclear bomb and a missile system to carry it as far as the U.S., but an agreement will allow President Obama to brag about the "success" of diplomacy and justify his reluctance to do what is necessary to stop them.

The president has said he was elected to "end wars, not start them." That would be a worthy goal if ending a war could be done unilaterally, but if one side is still fighting the war isn't over.

Islamic fanatics, who are recruiting and growing in numbers by the day and claim to have a presence throughout Europe and inside the U.S., believe they have marching orders from Allah. They will not be deterred by "infidels." They see American resolve extending no further than dropping bombs.

Obama said ISIS (or ISIL as he calls them) "will lose," but he didn't outline a battle plan in his request to Congress for additional powers, only that he would not send in ground troops; a few special forces maybe. A Washington Post editorial was correctly headlined: "No Way To Fight A War."

It's worth recalling President Franklin Roosevelt's "day of infamy" speech to Congress following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and contrasting it with President Obama's request to Congress and his overall reluctance to aggressively confront the terrorists.

Here's FDR: "No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us. Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God."

That's what leadership sounds and looks like when it is backed by action. The president should stop talking and create a legitimate coalition charged with initiating air and ground assaults on ISIS targets. He should devise a strategy for closing our borders to Muslim extremists and for expelling those found already here. The president should do all he can to protect American lives. He should act. He should lead.

William Shakespeare wrote these words for Macbeth, but insert the president's name for the first word "Life" and you could not have a better description of America's Nero:

"(Obama's) but a walking shadow, a poor player

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage

And then is heard no more: it is a tale

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Signifying nothing."

... that's the first and easiest step The second is apparently harder 2 Chronicles 7:14King James Version (KJV)

You know, I have seen this verse quoted so often and earnestly, and to no effect, that I have to wonder what it would take to convince these Scriptorians either:

a) this Scripture does not apply to any but those it was originally spoken to,

b) even if this Scripture is being appropriately quoted, the actual practical requirements and/or numbers are not being fulfilled, even by those who wish to do so. Therefore, said requirements are not rightly understood. Or

c) they are simply mishandling the Word of God.

In any case, simply dangling this verse before an audience without the correct guidance seems to me to come dangerously close to James 2:16...

...one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth itprofit?

Last night, TCM just managed to broadcast the movie ‘Quo Vadis’, which has as part of the screenplay, Caesar Nero, performed by Peter Ustinov, and included the burning of Rome while he sings, burning Christians in the Coliseum, and then, falling into sheer fright, as the People of Rome stormed the Roman palace.

Also, within the last two weeks, the movie “The wind and The Lion”, with part of the storyone being uttered by President Teddy Roosevelt, ‘the American woman freed, or the man’s death!’, backed up with an expeditionary force dispatched to the area, complete with Marines.

I saw this as somebody’s clear attempt to show the American people just how bad, corrupt, and in the pocket of the mohammedans, this guy is!

“And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshipped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:4)

fair enough;

2 Chronicles 7 King James Version (KJV)

7 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.
2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house.
3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.
5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.
6 And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the Lord, which David the king had made to praise the Lord, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
7 Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
8 Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.
9 And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.
10 And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the Lord had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

Solomon has built the temple and has ordered the celebration by all the people.
A week of the partay, and he sent everybody home .. happy and full of pizza

Then God came to him and commended him for his accomplishment and (as God is want) ... continues in the instruction designed to grow in grace and knowlwdge of the Lord.

God's instruction is ever occuring to all men ... the unsaved hear the same thing .. open the door and let me in ... the saved show up for school every day and like school ... you're supposed to pass from grade to grade, level to level ...

2 Chron. 7:14 is really kind'a like elementary education that can exhibit itself in a university way

Yep, exactly what I was thinking. No way Cal Thomas is ignorant of these things, so it would be surprising for him to use them loosely.

Nero was early associated with the number in both Greek and Latin.

"Re 17: 8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was, now is not, and yet will come."

Quo Vadis, which means “Where are you going?” is one if not my most favorite movies. I remember seeing Rome burn in my dreams later at night, after I watched the movie in the movie theater. I hated Peter Ustinov but later realized what a great actor he was

Hard to believe Cal Thomas, with his long history as a Washington journalist, doesn’t understand who and what obama really is. I lose respect every day for journalists I once admired when they either don’t see the reality of what is going on, or worse, pretend they don’t understand it so they can keep their cushy job. Cal is pretending.

Nero reputedly "fiddled" while Rome burned.

Obama isn't fiddling - he's lighting the matches and throwing gasoline on the fire of America. This isn't incompetence we are seeing - it is malice aforethought.

It is difficult to explain to anyone with a functioning brain why our government will condemn in the most violent of terms any perceived animosity towards the Religion of Islam, yet ignore the reality that it is Muslims who are terrorizing every person of any other faith and not only showing animosity, but engaging in wholesale genocide.

The only explanation is that the powers that are in control are being used as part of a spiritual world war.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood......

12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. .....20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.

Obama appears to be like Michael Jackson. He has surrounded himself with sycophant idol worshippers who refuse to tell him that he really looks stupid and that he really shouldn’t get another nose job.

They just keep telling him what a great guy he is, when in reality he is just a deluded clown.

But then in Obama’s case it just may be that rather than being a deluded clown, he is simply evil.

Nothing else explains his break from reality.

Are you the one who keeps posting this same crap over and over again? Give us a decent candidate that can “bring it” and then maybe I will vote for someone. The real reason for me? When Romney, a true committed Mormom, prays to my God, The God and Father of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, He does not hear.
He and all his church think, no they believe, some day they will be Gods and will have their own earth to rule over. They do NOT believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Savior.

I don’t see Obama as Nero, Bill Clinton played that role to perfection. Nero was an evil atheist pleasure seeking corrupt slug of human waste and ultimately loathed by his own people,

Obama is something altogether far darker, with the MSM placing halos around his head at every magazine cover photo opportunity, there is clearly something inside this man, something sinister and evil and operating and doing so increasingly in the open, I believe he is demonic, and no one in Congress or in the Media will stand in his way and they always seem to even cower and run away from any confrontation,

I see in his spirit similarities to both Nimrod and Belshazzar of Babylon,

If Obama should succeed in coercing Israel into surrendering its sovereignty for a false peace and security, I believe this event will essentially be playing out again, but on a much larger scale to a far greater audience:

“Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.” Daniel Chapter 5:1-2

Keep reading the Book of Daniel to see how well it ends for Belshazzar,

And this is what Nimrod is dong to America:

Referring to Nimrod, per Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews - Book 1 Chapter 4:2

“He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence upon his own power. “
