A new study from the School of Medical Sciences at Australias University of New South Wales points to profound brain changes that junk food causes, making a junk food habit more deadly than war, famine, and genocide.
We observed that rats fed a cafeteria diet for 2 weeks showed impaired sensory-specific satiety following consumption of a high calorie solution. The deficit in expression of sensory-specific satiety was also present 1 week following the withdrawal of cafeteria foods. Thus, exposure to obesogenic diets may impact upon neurocircuitry involved in motivated control of behavior.
"the consumption of junk food overrides this natural kill switch that allows us to regulate the calories we consume."
"mess with our internal motivation and reward system which causes us to seek more nutrition-less junk. Its like programming a time bomb and just waiting for it to blow."

I have lived in societies where all you have is what you would call "pure food". I felt hungry. So did they.
It was why they bought what you would call, "junk food" and what they would call, "food that makes my stomach not growl" when they had a chance.
High calorie food is good for you when you are engaging in high calorie activities.
Low calorie food is what will kill you.
We should bomb ISIS with Twinkies and Mountain Dew.
One could interpret this as a condemnation of school lunch programs. It makes a sort of intuitive sense: eating the tasteless swill served in school cafeterias leaves one feeling unsatisfied. Eventually, due to the perpetual feeling of deprivation, one forgets the pleasure of good food, and eats more and more, trying to get some satisfaction out of the food.
I do not know if studies will confirm or negate this hypothesis.
Obesity is fundamentally a problem of eating more calories than the body uses. But trying to figure out all the hormonal/neurological mechanisms that lead to that imbalance is tricky. It also does not help that many who conduct those studies want to find a simple answer to a complex problem--thus you get the idiocy of blaming sodas for obesity and so forth.
It does not help that many food purists push boring, simple foods as "healthy", and eschew anything tasty--not so bad if they personally want to eat that boring stuff, but horrendous if they want to force others to eat the same flavorless diet (e.g. Michelle Obama and her drive to make school lunches even more disgusting than they already were).
>> Until youve tried the pure foods approach, dont criticize it.
With all due respect, I’ll feel comfortable criticizing whatever I feel like criticizing, based on the information I have.
I’ve never experimented with needle drugs, or committed suicide, or engaged in homosex, or gotten a tattoo, but I feel perfectly qualified to criticize those things, too. For example.
Having said that, if you (or anyone else) enjoys eating any particular thing or style of things, knock yourself out! And feel free to extol the benefits of your choice.
But please do not feel free to use guilt, or academia, or, worst of all, government to shove your preferences down MY throat.
And don’t order me to not criticize your choices. You’re free to choose, but you are NOT free to dictate the results of your choice.
Thanks, and FRegards
So, they are “raising awareness”?
How many other mandatory behavioral/consumption changes started this way?
“Relax no one in this study trying to force you to change your eating habits.”
You know these guys?
Consider the little up-thumb to the right of your post highlighted.
Eating too much and exercising too little is generally the cause of obesity. My husband has diabetes - it runs in his family who are of a certain ethnic background where the disease is very common. No one knows what causes autism.
“but to point out that these studies usually have a leftist purpose “
but to point out that these studies ALWAYS have a leftist purpose
FIXED IT : )
If they are gov’t funded, yes, you can be guaranteed of the leftist slant,
because the “studiers” know that funding will be pulled if they don’t come up with the “right” conclusion.
Obesity is people having access to high calorie food with little physical effort. It is nothing new. Plenty of fat people through out history.
The rest is people living when they would have usually died early and having too much time to think that they are special little snowflakes and being allowed to wander out in public.
Back in the day they would have been kicked by a mule and died.
I've had it. If I want to eat "junk food", I will. If I want to own an AR-15 and shoot M855 ammo, I will. Sick to death of being told what to do by people who think they are better than me.
According to the CDC in 2013 611,105 died from it in a single year.

Now let's compare the above number to say the different wars. The Civil War had the most dead, 625k, but that was over a 4 year period. The 611k was a single year.

So you have to ask yourself what is the major contributor to the heart disease. It's our food.
The evidence points towards the interactions between multiple genes. Trying to identify all of those genes and determine each gene's contribution to the overall disorder is a challenge.
On the one hand, it would be nice to understand all of the genes involved in autism. On the other hand, once those are identified, pregnant women will have genetic testing done, and many of them will choose to abort their autistic children.
Okay, don't criticize me or anybody else who doesn't agree with you, either.
It’s just a study that’s all. Something to think about and help you out.
This is not about dictating policy.
I agree people should have the freedom to eat what they want and when they want to.
Here's something for you: leave me and mine the h*ll alone, nanny stater. If I want to eat bacon every day, I will.
oh ball sheet
Chicken Little Society strikes again
Bingo!
I am firmly in your camp on this one.
Here’s an interesting video for those who believe the governmental dictates on proper diet:
