The stream of requests to the White House from Jeb Bush, a young but well-connected Republican leader in South Florida, ranged from the weighty and urgent to the parochial and mundane.
In 1985, he sent an emotional letter pressing his father, Vice President George Bush, to investigate the detention of Cuban children in Texas, asking, Shouldnt there be some compassion? (The vice presidents reply: Heartbreaking.)
In 1989, after his father became president, Mr. Bush offered his recommendation for the next Supreme Court opening. (Your suggestion will be given thoughtful consideration, a senior aide responded.)
In 1990, Mr. Bush lobbied the White House to meet with executives of the telecommunications giant Motorola fostering a relationship that would later aid his own political ambitions. (The chief of staff did meet with Motorola, as did President Bush.)
For the 12 years that his father held national elective office, Mr. Bush used his unique access to the highest reaches of government to seek favors for Republican allies, push his views and burnish his political profile in his home state, a review of presidential library records shows. In the process, Mr. Bush carefully constructed an elaborate and enduring network of relationships in Florida that helped lead to his election as governor in 1998 and, now, to his place as a top contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
It was a period when Mr. Bush, a real estate developer and entrepreneur in his late 20s and 30s, made his debut in regional politics, parlaying his family name into the chairmanship of the Dade County Republican Party and emerging as a sought-after figure for anyone trying to reach the White House.

If it were B. Hussein Obama they were writing about, he’d be an “astute networker” — all for the good of the oppressed, no less.
As someone who grew up with no connections (unless you count the ones I wished I didn’t have) I have often wondered how this “connections” thing works.
Seems to me this dauphin has been poisoned by a culture not his own. Ready, willing and able to sacrifice the sovereignty and integrity of his own.
It will be an extremely cold day in hell before I ever step out the door to go vote for him for anything.
It's all in the Constitution. In the penumbra. [/s]
I reject jeb for the fact that we have had 2 disappointing bush presidencies and I completely reject the concept of “royalty” with respect to governance. He represents a self-perceived elite ruling class and I will have none of it. Even if he was a conservative I would not vote for another bush ever.
And he has presented himself as anything but conservative. He will lose. This is obvious...
Terri Schiavo. Perfect illustration of how ole Jeb will treat the most vulnerable in our society. A cold day in hell.
When he did not use his executive branch power to help Terry Schiavo, he lost my respect and will Never get my vote!
I hope you are right. But the ruling classes have already positioned their pieces. I don’t know how the middle and endgame will turn out.
Not a single attempt to connect with Conservatives.
All attempts to connect to political power using family connections.
The worst kind of politician.
Did you see the movie “Ghosts”???

But it’s o.k. His mum says he will make a good president and mum is always right!! Damn nest of RINOs!!
It’s Jeb’s turn to lose. He’s the only one who could lose to Hillary in 2016, just as McCain was the only one who could lose 2008 and Romney was the only one who could lose 2012.
It’s all about amnesty.
We will be prevented from electing a President who WOULD enforce the llaws on Fraudulently Documented Foreigners
If he becomes the choice on the ballot, I will leave that blank.
Funny how that happens, huh Pinch?
It warms the cockles of my heart to see the mainstream press start to demonize the corpulent, Phillips Academy, pot-smoking, dim-witted, bully Jeb Bush.
No goobers please.
And the pedophiles wife - is she using her connections freely?
I doubt very seriously that Hillary will win the nomination for the Democratic Party anyway. Those in power within the Democratic machine do not really care for her, but you are correct that Jeb would lose to whomever the Democrats nominate.
That would be a given.
It looked like something from a concentration camp.
Even if you weren't looking for a reason not to support Jeb, that would have done it.
