I’m no fan of these things but according to one cabbie in NYC, whom I had engaged in a discussion about the pro’s and con’s (lol) of lower gas prices, his hybrid currently required $9/day in fuel vs. $30-something for a straight-up gas job.
I’ll wait until next week when the new models come out, or the week after, or the week after..

Here’s another article from yesterday ...
Apple hiring automotive experts to work in secret research lab

Apple is recruiting experts in automotive technology and vehicle design to work at a new top-secret research lab, said several people familiar with the company, pointing to ambitions that go beyond the dashboard.
Dozens of Apple employees, led by experienced managers from its iPhone unit, are researching automotive products at a confidential Silicon Valley location outside the companys Cupertino campus, the people said.
Sir Jonathan Ives team of Apple designers has held regular meetings with automotive executives and engineers in recent months, in some cases trying to hire them. Recent recruits to Apples team include the head of Mercedes-Benzs Silicon Valley R&D unit.
The Apple research lab was set up late last year, not long after Apple unveiled its forthcoming smart watch and latest iPhones, which suggests that any resulting product may still be years away from release. Apple often investigates a wide range of new product areas, some of which never get released.
Any company that thinks they can design an all electric vehicle needs to have one executive permanently located in Phoenix, and another in Minneapolis. The company can design all the neat communications, navigation, social media, and selfie gadgets they want, but if they can’t heat it in Minneapolis when the temperature is -25, or air condition it in Phoenix when the temperature is 115, they won’t sell more than a few vehicles to a few Silicone Valley and Hollywood millionaires. And, oh, yah (a little Minnesota lingo there), it also needs to go more than go to and from work without a recharge. Ever so often, you need to stop at the beer store and the hardware store and maybe even run over to the other side of town, too.
Apple’s business model won’t work with an electric car.
A unique, patented electrical outlet and power cord and being unable to replace the battery.
BTW, I’m an Apple fan, own several.
If it’s Apple, there will be a holy water font on each door and the odor of bees wax in the air. Before you enter, remember to put on your white cassock and whisper a few words to the Father in Cupertino.
Toyota called....
They want their name back...
How about calling it the “Road Apple”? Some of you country folks will figure this one out...
code name “spend cash”
What could possibly go wrong?
It looks like Apple sees the writing on the wall when it comes to falling battery prices and $1.00 per gallon equivalent electricity. Let's hope that they and others can help us be energy independent.
If anyone else wants to be on this list, please let me know either through a reply or through FReep mail.
Kodak, Polaroid, DEC... Nothing lasts forever.
Will it cost 20% more than any other comparable machine simply for the privilege of sporting an Apple logo?
Will you have to buy the latest model every year in order to keep up with the Jones?
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
How kewel is that!
Like McDonald's, the ONE TIME Hamburger King, who suddenly became everything to everyone, selling salads, etc they directly diminished their Brand's position.
I predict the same will happen to Apple because building an electric car is a totally different reality as opposed to installing your operating system on the Samsung produced electronic equipment they sell as Apple iPhones, iPads, etc..
This is nothing more than MY OPINION, but something tells me the stage is setting itself for this scenario and a massive loss of money..
