New troubling details are emerging about the livery cab driver who survived the fatal crash of journalist Bob Simon in a car accident this week.
Police have confirmed that the Lincoln Town Car transporting the longtime 60 Minutes correspondent to a medical talk about Ebola on Wednesday night sped up before rear-ending the Mercedes-Benz in front of it and crashing into metal barricades on Manhattans West Side Highway.
Law enforcement officials have suggested that Simons driver, Abdul Reshad Fedahi, likely hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. But reports from the New York Post, the New York Daily News, and CBS New York question whether Fedahi should have been behind the wheel.
With less than a year as a livery driver under his belt, the 44-year-old Fedahi, an Afghan immigrant, still had a temporary Taxi and Limousine Commission license which has since been temporarily suspended. But his rap sheet with the DMV is lengthy. Since November 2011, Fedahis drivers license has reportedly been suspended nine times. According to DMV records, the suspensions resulted from his failure to respond to court summonses. Recent driving convictions include speeding in September and disobeying a traffic sign in January 2014.

The real question here is....how many others have near a dozen suspensions and yet still drive? This is where you send two officers down and pick the guy up for four weeks in the country jail. That will usually get your attention.
how does it get suspended so many times in such a short period of time? was the license suspended just a few weeks at a time?
“..... transporting the longtime 60 Minutes correspondent to a medical talk about Ebola....”
Who was giving the talk?
What other notable news media people were in attendance?
Where was the talk being held?
Has information that was given in the talk been made public?
There's the problem...
Simon should have taken Uber, it would have been much safer.
I called it as soon as I heard it. ILLEGAL.
Maybe after oh, 6 suspensions we just say “NO COMMERCIAL LICENSE FOR YOU”. And if we catch you driving we’re talking serious prison time.
My understanding is the drivers license was suspended for not paying parking tickets. Not the same as if he had driven drunk. I have not heard that much so I don’t know that is 100% but just throwing that out there
Does it really matter what the talk was about?
An Afghani import-—going from camels to cabs in a few short years measured in centuries. Liberal multiculturalism got Bob Simon killed. Morons all.
Charge the half breed with being an accomplice to murder, before the act. Any reports on whether the driver got his 72 Helen Thomas look-a-likes?
Been to NYC lately? It’s third world. Rarely will you find an American born cabbie. Nine license suspensions, multiple moving violations, SOS! The cops bust them but the judges don’t even slap them on the wrist. Take a look at the NYC judicial system, most incompetent liberal political hacks.
Like many of the illegals being gifted with driver licenses, he probably can’t read English and doesn’t care about our stinkin’ laws. So what if an American family or two is killed. The important thing is that the illegals are treated with compassion.
I've commented to the wife that you can get a handle on how decent an area of the country you are in by the ethnicity of the cabbies and the attitudes/ethnicity of the highway toll takers.
Where it's almost all third world and sullen... it ain't the old USA.
He should have taken Uber. We really could have done without all these third worlders. NYC is not adding to its image with their taxi corps.
How could this guy even work driving a cab? How could he possibly afford the insurance? The insurance must be prohibitively expensive with his record or the payoffs have to be awfully steep to avoid paying the insurance. What are the odds he will be back driving a cab after this is over? I wouldn’t bet against it.
no he wont be driving a cab again. When something bad happens to an elite, mountains move to change things.
Another way that men are no long equal in the eyes of the law and government in the US.
I doubt he's illegal. We'll give immigrant visas to any Afghan who asks for one.
