Seeking war power authority for three years, President Barack Obama is setting up the prospect that his successor will become the third American president in a row overseeing U.S. military forces grappling with turmoil in the Middle East.

Passing on an active military mission in the region would be an unexpected and unwanted legacy for Obama, a president who once appeared poised to fulfill his campaign pledge to end U.S.-led conflicts in the region. […]

The president has long said the campaign against the Islamic State militants would be lengthy, suggesting it could extend beyond his presidency. But his authorization request to Congress makes that implication a reality and injects a complex foreign policy matter into the early stages of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Under Obama’s proposal, the use of military force against Islamic State fighters would be authorized for three years, unbounded by national borders. The fight could be extended to any “closely related successor entity” to the Islamic State extremists, but the measure does not authorize large-scale ground operations. …

Just how long did Obama ride on the rhetoric of “we inherited this war/debt/crisis” . . . ?

That is the Obama motivating force.

Aside from being pacifist coward, he is a vindictive pacifist coward

The problem for America is that he is going to be alive and vocal for ever

Odumbo is stirring the pot pretty heavily by NOT going after the various threats to this country, kind of setting the stage for BIGGER problems for whomever inherits his mess. It has to be part of his “Plan for America”. (Bastard that he is)

No sh*t.

And that won't be the only "conflict" they "inherit" from the Maoist clown currently crouching in the white house.

Destructive, God-, country- and family-hating pacificist coward.

It’s tricky slipping one by the AP, innit?

I fully expect them to tell us the sun may rise tomorrow.

I’m almost expecting a successor inheriting WW-III. That is, if not the war after that one.

Julie Pace occasionally shows up on the Bair’s “Special Report” panel. Other than Juan Williams, she is the most politically deaf and dumb twit on the current roster. She is totally blind to any of Obama’s myriad of flaws, and she uses the fingers in ears pretense of ignoring any criticism of liberal faults.

“Could”? The Obama will spend the next two years ramping up that conflict. Of course his successor will have to deal with it. ...especially if his successor takes office more than two years from now.

All of this would have been unnecessary had Obama stayed the course Bush set instead of cutting and running.. and had obama allowed the military to take out ISIS when they started out marching in the desert

If the debate revolves around foreign policy and Clinton is the Democratic nominee, I welcome that debate. When she starts pushing her bonifides as Secretary of State, we can then start talking about Benghazi. She will be forced to answer with more than “What difference does it make?”
