Mitt Romney entered the GOP race, then left. Now New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the candidate thought to be the most relieved that another moderate Northeast opponent wouldnt compete, has fallen on hard times. After a terrible week in which he bobbled a vaccine question, barked at the media and was the subject of a report detailing his taste for luxury, he is now getting iffy reviews from Iowa.
The Posts Robert Costa reports, Unlike some Christie events in New Jersey, where promotional videos with pulsing soundtracks play before he roams onstage with Bruce Springsteen-like swagger, Christies stagecraft here was bare-bones, with only a glass of water, a lectern and a brief introduction. Christie stuck to a muted mien during his 40-minute presentation, dutifully listing a range of what he considers to be his most notable achievements, from reducing the number of state employees to capping state property taxes. The reaction was muted: Heads nodded respectfully throughout, but the applause was sporadic. The biggest round of clapping came for a barb about President Obama being a man in a dark room struggling up against the wall, looking for the light switch of leadership.

As things have played out, Christie is a surprisingly weak contender for the establishment vote and for big money. My suspicion, confirmed anecdotally, is that a lot of the former Romney support that does not flow to Jeb will go to Walker. As one insider put it, The guy always wins. And that is the highest tribute a big money Republican can render.

I’m sure you are aware the state you and I live in is one of the best for job creation and s business friendly environment-I don’t remember a time it was not...
we need Christie in to thin the damn RINO votes!
The day of the country club Republican is over. Arlen Spector passing away was the start and in a few more years maybe the rest of the tired old farts will be gone, too.
I can’t believe they stayed on as long as they did with their whole mantra of playing nice-nice with the Democrats who hated them in return.
Boehner won his district with 67% of the vote. He'll be around a long time I believe.
It’ll be 1 rino and 6 right wingers..
we know how that plays out.
And what has he done to move NJ away from the liberal government model? Nothing.
He’s worse than a lib.
Not in the GOP, but what happened to Hitlary? Haven’t heard much from her for some time. Either she “fell” again, is once again “drying out” or just plain in hiding. For the record, I DO NOT miss her at all.
About the article: if Christie's putting on a half-hearted lackluster showing, maybe he's not running. Maybe he's only going to these campaign events to keep his name in the papers. That would seem to be the logical conclusion, wouldn't it?
Sorry I stepped away.
I couldn’t agree with you more, I just moved here from California, because Texas has it going on.
But Texas, and California, and all of America could be growing big-time, if we would just make stuff here in America.
We need to bring back manufacturing. For one entire generation we have exported American jobs to China.
Even here in Texas, everything is imported from China.
It is absurd.
Someone needs to be strongly, for America.
Who will stand up?
When Boehner finally passes away I hope he has to spend his eternity kissing Nancy Pelosi. I can’t think of a more fitting fate for him.
Yes, I have been thinking that as well.
They believe they can trot out the RINOs we most hate first and then switch to a less offensive establishment type who will look positively 'Right Wing' by comparison.
They truly believe we are that stupid.
“Tubeworm” ...
LOL! That’s hilarious! Thanks!
Might as well write off Jeb after this stupid email dump (almost like a God-wink).
There would have to be a profit to be made for that to happen, and there is none-especially with unions always trying to get their greasy paws into every factory one way or another, and government dreaming up ways to raise the corporate tax again.
It was tried in the 90’s with the maquiladoras that were a coop effort between Texas and Mexico-a couple of my cousins moved to the border area when one of those factories was offering a better than average wage to Americans who spoke Spanish as a 2nd language-but the maquiladora model didn’t seem to do all that well.
When my 1st husband and I lived in a burb outside of SA in the 80’s, the Levi Strauss factory was still open, just barely after union problems that began in the late 60’s and never really stopped. That time it was fatal, and the factory closed for good, putting everyone out of work-thanks again, f’in union...
Since then, most of those jeans and other denim clothing items have been made in the area around Torreon-a city full of Americans-northern Mexico. The Levi factory store there was very nice-we bought jeans at a fraction of the dept store price every time we visited our friends...
All I am saying is America needs to rebuild, and recapture the manufacturing which was just one generation ago, almost exclusively American.
That can be done, I think, by returning manufacturing to the United States (somehow, that is another topic for discussion however) but specifically by bringing manufacturing to states which are friendly to it.
States exactly like Texas. But there are lots more states.
Sending manufacturing to China is short-sighted. China keeps a majority of the factory, and keeps the jobs, and the ownership.
Yet we have sent so many manufacturing plants to China, that China, not America, now is in the global manufacturing lead.
And China is GROWING. Fast.
America needs to support America once again. And Americans need to support American manufacturing once again.
How this needs to change, is the topic for another topic.
But we need to stop sending jobs to China, and we need to start to bring jobs right back to America.
Just saying. Good discussing this with you.
Hmmmm.
Tubeworm? Hmmm. I was thinking more along the lines of a tapeworm or guinea worm.
In any case, this is all academic. We can rest assured that the uniparty will not allow anyone who would even mildly vibrate the applecart to be nominated let alone elected. In a way, that’s a good thing: it allows us to spend a pretty November day doing something other than casting a meaningless ballot. Just think of all the cool things we can do other than wait in line like cows at an abattoir!
set up a deer stand.
go to the range.
go fishing.
clean up the garden
vacuum the car
watch a good movie
See. The uniparty isn’t all bad!
This is a shame. I wanted Romney, Christie, Rubio, and the next Bush in line to stay so they could split the liberal crossover votes four ways. No one actually likes any of those RINOs, but democrats consciously sabotaging our primary will have a better chance with fewer establishment RINOs in the race.
