“FIFTY SHADES OF GREY” DECONSTRUCTED
http://www.catholicleague.org ^ | February 9, 2015 | Bill Donohue

February 9, 2015

"Fifty Shades of Grey" will debut in some theaters on February 13; it opens wide on Valentine's Day. The movie is based on the best-selling book by that name, authored by British writer E.L. James. It features a young woman who submits to being beaten by a man.

Bishop Richard J. Malone, Chairman of the Bishops' Conference Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, says that while the book and film "are marketed as a romantic story," it is really nothing more than a "graphic portrayal of a young woman agreeing to be abused and degraded in a sexual relationship."

Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr has joined with the Religious Alliance Against Pornography in condemning the movie. "The story line is presented as a romance, however, the underlying theme is that bondage, domination, and sadomasochism [BDSM] are normal and pleasurable."

Bill Donohue, drawing on his experience as a sociologist, agrees with these assessments, and offers his own analysis. Because of the nature of the conduct that constitutes BDSM, readers should know in advance that his article is itself a graphic depiction of some very real, though sick, behaviors. Anti-Christian Obama worshippers, especially the airheaded pro-abort, man-hating crowd will flock to the movies this coming Valentine's Day and make this latest piece trash from Hollywood a huge hit. Will also be a big hit with the sodomite crowd, the majority of which likes all forms of sexual deviancy.

It’s degrading to women? Should play big in Mecca.

Liberal nonsense has made us hate who we are.

Once men were men, women were women, and it seemed to work. Today, by my understanding, men must be compassionate, but not wimpy; strong but vulnerable; anticipating woman's needs but not so much as to be pushy about it...no wonder we are all crazy. I have written before that the Modern, Reinvented, Twilight-Vampire is the embodiment of modern women's' "perfect fantasy man." Strong enough to protect you, weak enough to "need a woman to fix him", powerful but thoughtful, etc. They have been displaced in the past few years by Christian Gray...Strong enough to protect you, weak enough to "need a woman to fix him", powerful but thoughtful, etc. (With the added twist that Gray is, whatever his flaws, certainly a Manly Man in the Old Style in many ways.) On behalf of men, who are pretty simple creatures, let me say that WE ARE EXHAUSTED at trying to be both ends of every extreme, and being slagged for failing to be everything at once. (As I am told women are as well, being told by the Modern Feminism that they can be both the Perfect Mom and the Perfect Business Person, ALL THE TIME ALL AT ONCE and if they AREN'T, well, society punishes THEM for failing to be perfect at it all.)

So many divorces today begin on the wife's side, and are against men who are trying to do AT LEAST 50% of everything are being punished for TRYING TO BE what society has for thirty years insisted they SHOULD BE to please women. And women are often finding that the kind of non-assertive, cloying, fawning men that they are supposed to be seeking out are falling short.

John Wayne, Cary Grant, and many of their kind may be coming back into their own. When men were men, and women were glad of it.

Wasn’t this already done in 9 AND 1/2 WEEKS back in 1986? I saw it and wanted two hours of my life back!

Why would anyone pay attention to this tripe? Is there something even remotely entertaining about it?

It was preceded by the Story of O,
not that I know anything about it, of course.

It’s Twilight porn. It was initially a Fanfiction about Twilight and porn. No deconstruction needed.

I don’t think “deconstruct” means
what he thinks it means, unless
the headline is just click bait.

It will probably be more tame than half the shows on HBO and Showtime.

Apparently the book/movie is so bad that even the BDSM crowd is disavowing & distancing from it.

Yep. Maybe I'm getting old and cynical, and let's face it, sex is inherently ridiculous anyway, but the notion of Biff and Buffy flailing away at one another with internet-bought rubber whips in search of some sort of erotic epiphany is simply hysterical. They'll be deadly earnest about it, to be sure, and we will be treated to solemn intellectual pronouncements about it in Salon as if they invented sex. Have fun, kids, and don't forget the safewords. And if you happen to end up in the ER with something in a very private place that shouldn't be there, it won't be the first time they've seen it and it certainly won't be the last. The X-rays may hit the Internet. You could be famous.

not true. the male protaganist is referred to a messed up many times. The book doesn’t glorify bdsm and in the last book the woman who introduced the male protganist into bdsm is slapped and rejected by the male protaganist’s family

All the lessons my parents gave me and their example of loving each other saved me from making many mistakes. As a result I am happily married and our children are benefitting from all the collected knowledge.

JPII once said that the best thing for a man to do is love his wife. Actually, by showing his wife love and making sure that the children know it. That does more for family cohesion and the health of all the family members. And if a man is wise he marries a good woman who appreciates him for being a man.

The libs had evil foresight when they went after the black families. Remove the dad from the families and you get chaos.

Movies like 50 Shades are soul and family destroying.

The movie is just soft porn and Americans have the right to see it thanks to our Bill of Rights. That being said, for me - no thanks.

Theres a lot more things to get worked up over than people voluntarily watching a sex movie. I haven’t watched it or read it but the feminists hate it because women aren’t allowed to be submissive even if they want to be, so that is reason enough to support it.
