S.F. water manager faces suspension for urinating in reservoir

A mid-level San Francisco water manager is under fire for urinating into a reservoir that’s a source of drinking water for 2.5 million Bay Area customers.

City Hall sources tell us that Martin Sanchez, a $111,000-a-year maintenance planner for the Public Utilities Commission, will probably be suspended without pay for the maximum five days allowed as a result of the Jan. 6 incident at the Priest Reservoir in the Sierra foothills near Sonora.

Priest is one of four holding reservoirs for San Francisco and other Bay Area cities that receive Hetch Hetchy water.

Utilities commission spokesman Tyrone Jue said the 674 million-gallon reservoir had been “completely drained” for maintenance when Sanchez used it as a urinal. Although the urine posed no health danger, Jue said, his action was “not acceptable.”

“the 674 million-gallon reservoir had been “completely drained” for maintenance”

“Suspended for 5 days? How about fired!”

He peed in in a lake bed of an EMPTY reservoir.
Want to fire him for that??
Geez folks; get some common sense. Conservatives are normally known for that.

Oh of course if it’s empty then no bacteria remained.

I guess it’s just the thought of peepee in the reservoir.

It has been mathematically demonstrated that every drop of water on Earth was once comsumed millions of years ago by the dominant saurian population which once ruled the planet.

Therefore we are all drinking recycled dinosaur whizz.

Thirsty?

>> pissing in a patients surgical wound <<

I’m not a medical person, but I’ve heard the following:

Because almost all urine is sterile, the military teaches soldiers that in a battlefield emergency, urine may be used to clean wounds.

Did your medical training teach you about the safety and efficacy of using urine to clean wounds?

Inquiring minds want to know. Seriously!

In 1971 when I was in Army flight school, during the survival, escape, & evasion bloc of training, we were taught that one’s own urine could be used to irrigate one’s own wounds or cuts.

After that came the poisonous snake pit but that’s another story.

...very FEW people drink tap water, the VAST majority are doing bottled water.
*****************************
Might be true in some areas where the water has high mineral content or bad taste. However that does not equal the “vast majority” of people in this country.

Most cities and communities have safe, good tasting water.

Drinking bottled water is just a Yuppie thing and easy to carry when jogging or cycling in spandex togs; to be trendy.

Seriously - the guy works for the water dept...and he does this?
**************************
Even the excerpt says the reservoir had been drained for maintenance BEFORE this guy took a leak.

Besides, reservoir waters go through various purification processes before reaching the faucets in the houses and businesses.

San Francisco has a problem with microscopic pee? Sure, you bet. The body fluid crowd is deeply concerned. The bay area needs good cleansing. May Sodom find it’s bottom.

*****************************
I learned that as a young boy when on vacation on Galveston Island TX. A guy was severely stung by jelly fish and had to be pulled from the water. Life guard had several men gather around and urinate on the guy to dilute to venom and pain.

A couple of years later, my younger sister was also hit by jelly fish. I carried her out of the water and quickly urinated on the red stripes on her legs made by the tentacles. Dad carried her to the car and nearby hospital, where they said the urine helped further injury. ...She ended up with no permanent scars on her legs.

(No. This isn’t a Brian Williams tall tale.)

The pee coming out of the fisherman is more sterile than the water into which he is peeing.
