The guy was in his own house.

Maybe the old man could not hear the cop over all the noise from the shooting...

Maybe you can rent a grizzly bear to menace you while you’re at the range.

Yeah, Be sure to take the stand in front of a jury/ grand jury that you meant to “shoot to kill”. Better yet, waive your Miranda rights and tell the cops that and see how much that helps. If charged or arraigned tell the judge you know everything and you dont need a lawyer either. /sarc

So, youll leave yourself unable to defend yourself and be at the whim of those aiming? That really has nothing to do with the conversation...I was making the point that for the cop to get a shot off like he did, his gun was likely drawn when he went into the house...

It only takes a second to draw a gun.

Yeah, misread the story. I was wrong.
Wait, I mean I ‘mispoke’;)

IS THE COP SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT THE MAN POINTING THE GUN AT HIM IS THE PERSON HE WAS SENT TO INVESTIGATE? No reports of strangers (or anyone) around the house. No evidence of a break-in. Owner's car at house.
Everything points to only person in house is owner (possibly unconscious). Anyone not unconscious to be considered a clear and present danger and to be neutralized so officer remains "in control" of the situation.
