WASHINGTON — Spending for the Department of Homeland Security hangs in the balance as Congress fights over immigration matters in the agency's annual funding bill. Without action by Feb. 27, the department's budget will shut off.
To hear Democrats and many Republicans tell it, the result would be unacceptable risks to U.S. security at a time of grave threats worldwide. In reality, though, most people will see little change if the department's money flow is halted, and some of the warnings of doom are as exaggerated as they are striking.
"There are ghoulish, grim predators out there who would love to kill us or do us harm," said Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee. "We should not be dillydallying and playing parliamentary pingpong with national security."

Maybe private security will take over this task, paid for by the airlines that benefit.
Nothing will change. Critical staff will continue to work, they won’t get paid until the budget gets passed. The non-critical staff will sit at home doing nothing. When a budget finally gets through everybody will get back pay. Net result: a paid vacation for bureaucrats.
DHS shutting down means one less bureaucracy and the duty to defend the homeland returns to those whose duty it is to defend it, the citizens.
They should close TSA while their at it.

Well, how were things before Homeland Security was created?
We might be able to travel in freedom.
I can think of a couple dozen federal agencies we could learn to live without.
DHS thugs would no doubt delve into some creative sabotage, just like union thugs do at strike time. And when they go back to work, Line Item #1 in the post-fracas world stipulates there to be no repercussions or legal actions whatsoever for illegal activity.

Just have all ‘nonessential government employees’ stay home...Then send out the pink slips.
DHS an evil rogue agency should have been shut down long ago.
