Williams in 2007: I looked down the tube of that RPG launcher (man the lifeboats alert)
Hot Air ^ | February 7, 2015 | Ed Morrissey

Via Ace and Twitter user Niedermeyer’s Dead Horse, yet another tale of Brian Williams’ heroism on that fateful day in Iraq in 2003 has emerged, this time from 2007. Don’t forget that the absolutely false version of his helicopter ride being hit by an RPG had been floating around since 2004, this time the story has even more compelling detail. Williams tells Fairfield University reporter Emily Fitzmaurice in November 2007 about all of the close calls he’s had as a reporter, including the 2003 incident in Iraq in which he looked down the tube of the RPG launcher. Pick up the tales of Williams’ adventures at the two-minute mark:

“I remember defending little round top.”

You should write a book. I missed the action. I was down in Plumb Run washing my socks. Next time you see Abe, give him my regards.

I will. He’s flipping burgers now at the downtown McDonalds. We reminisce a lot about the war, but he really loves the quiet life - and old westerns.

I understood that he navigated for Jimmy Doolittle and, a few years later, for Paul Tibbits in the Enola Gay.

My Dad laid down in Abe’s death bed. It was during WW2 when Dad (Navy) was visiting the Capitol. They had it upstairs in the rotunda, I recall. Jumped the barrier and laid down for a moment. Dad was a great guy but a bit of a lib. That happens when you have 10 other siblings and you were born in the Great Depression. They didn’t milk it.

Brian Williams just reported that once he faced down four enemy soldiers by asking “You gonna pull those pistols or whistle dixie?”

I’ll be more respectful. This guy was dodging arrows with Rameses II at the Battle of Kadesh. Well, not exactly with him, but in the next chariot back.

How do you “look down the tube “ of an “RPG launcher”?

The RPG launcher of choice by the Muzzies is an externally launched grenade, not a bazooka type shell coming through a tube.

We could have shared a cappuccino, which can be made using an electric espresso machine, which I happened to invent. I discovered it can be run by electricity, which I happened to come across when I flew a kite in an electrical storm.

We make quite a team. You invented the machine and I discovered coffee and ran the very first trade routes. It was quite an adventure.
