Actually, Belichick didn’t graduate from Andover. He went to Andover for a postgraduate year to improve his grades so that he could get into a quality college.
You need to stop getting your info from Slate.
Also, there are plenty of kids that have gone through Andover who weren’t bullies.
Here is an article from YESTERDAY regarding workers training their H-IB Visa replacments. How is this even legal??? So if there is a shortage of skilled workers, why are the SKILLED WORKERS TRAINING THEIR LOWER-WAGED REPLACEMENTS? Because the idea of the shortage is false. The article addresses other companies where this is occurring as well.

Your big issue seems to be Baby Boomer/Soc. Security. I have read a few articles about this and agree there are problems ahead in this area.
However, I don’t see how keeping US CITIZENS out of work by replacing them with workers with H-1B Visas who will accept lower wages helps the situation.
I am wondering how many Baby Boomers will not even be able to retire because they missed peak earning years due to this economy. I know of at least 2 families in this situation right now.
I think you are way too trusting of our political elites and their altruistic motives driving policy. Why do you think that their care for us and the looming Baby Boomer problem is driving policy? Frankly, based on what has transpired since the 2014 elections (back-pedalling on Obamacare repeal and immigration), I believe they don’t care about us or Soc Sec. They care about the here and now....campaign contributions from their US Chamber of Commerce donors. Oh and the democrats care about expanding the welfare state...
If there are tech worker shortages, why are we not training our unemployed citizens and students to fill these gaps?!
If the situation is going to flip in 5 years, why don’t we wait till then to throw open the doors for skilled foreign workers? Over the years, we have opened and closed our doors to foreign workers—and even during the last 6 years we have allowed nearly a million/year to enter on temporary visas. Why are we doing this when their are millions of out-of-work US CITIZENS?
Why do you think the tech sector will be hit hard by retirement?? I have boomer friends in San Fransisco who work for a company with a 30-year old CEO. My son, who works in San Jose, just turned 30. I don’t think of the tech sector as full of grey-haired workers...article from San Fransisco below states majority of tech workers are 25-44 years old, software is 25-34 years....

I agree with you that our schools are doing a lousy job of recruiting into math, engineering, sciences/technology—why use their term, STEM, if you don’t like it.... If we have 5 years, then we had better get going to recruit students into those fields....There are all kinds of truly silly PSAs (Public Service Announcements) running, how about one on going into technology occupations? How about working with local schools to promote math and science careers?
BTW, I have a friend whose son left college to go out to California and work in web design. His boss, 21 years old, is a friend and CEO of his company doing web design (company recently bought out by bigger firm BTW). So my friend’s son was recruited away from his 4-year degree for a real job and real experience. He can return to college, which he probably will, but now has no debt and is taking advantage of a great opportunity.

They only care about the here and now...if they really cared, would our debt be at nearly $200 TRILLION?? They don’t care...
Regarding the H-1B Visas replacing workers....see article above. I would just say that simply because someone is foreign and working on PhD or has obtained PhD from whatever university, it does not make them world class. I am speaking as one who has 2 PhDs in the family....We are recruiting foreign students for the benefit of the universities & their faculty and companies providing grants to students to get inexpensive research...not necessarily the betterment of our country. I would absolutely stack up my son’s research against any foreign student’s—his dissertation was nearly 800 pages. I suspect your “world class” foreign PhD students research could have been performed by US students had they been given the chance. As I stated in a prior post, I worked for a University grad studies engineering program....just because they are foreign did not make them world class.
Oh, and regarding recruiting of foreign students to fill seats only if no qualified US citizens are applying? You cannot tell me that there were not US students turned down by UofI due to their Chinese recruiting.

And I appreciate your concerns regarding the future of the country—which IMHO are not limited to Social Security, but I think you are somewhat misguided regarding your trust of the “political class’” intentions and the intentions of companies want to bring foreigners here to work...it has nothing to do with world class.
I am not opposed to foreign students or workers, but I believe our country (like our country in years past and like every other country today) needs to take care of its citizens FIRST. It seems to me that we are bending over backwards for immigrants (both legal and illegal) and neglecting the people of this country who have themselves or who have ancestors who have sacrificed for our country.

Yep, I’m in a sweet spot of being neither a maker (though I do plenty of work for myself and fam - it’s just not taxable - Yea!) nor a taker.
That is not the immigration Jeb is speaking of. He’s talking about open borders - business as usual...criminals, future welfare recipients, low wage low skill workers, etc.
You also make the elite class foreign - totally unfamiliar with our system of government, culture, etc. that made America rich and great. They come with their socialist and Islamic mental illnesses and wreck our country with their absolute ignorance.
(Been trained at a great Eastern Technological Institution and have no shortage of documented innovation)

Depends on who you talk to. He's considered an alumnus of the school in Bush's year and plenty of sources say he graduated. It's something of a technicality whether they let him go through the ceremony or not.
If you're saying he wasn't a typical Andover student, fine. I was just relating that he went to the school to people who might not have heard it but who might find the idea of Bush and Belichick as classmates intriguing.

That also depends. What people call bullying or abuse when it's done to them, they call teasing or joking or kidding when they do it themselves. Traditionally, bullying of various sorts was common at boarding schools, especially when they were single sex.
Maybe some kids nowadays are saintly and avoid all manner of offensive behavior, but it certainly wasn't like that in the 60s or 70s. That a prep school jock forty years ago could be a jerk sometimes really doesn't come as a surprise. That doesn't mean Jeb should be president, but if you think the story is a big deal, you're letting the Globe manipulate you.

My youngest daughter has applied to Andover (and other top prep schools) for high school starting next fall. So, I’ve learned a lot about Andover and others.
If you look at the lists of notable alumni that these schools claim, you will find a lot of notables on the list who never graduated from the schools. Some of the schools even point out those on the list who did not graduate.
Many of these schools offer a postgraduate year for people like Belichick to improve their stats for college. But those people aren’t graduates.
As for the Globe, I believe the people they quoted. I voted for Jeb twice for governor here in Florida. Subsequently, we’re finding that much of what Jeb did as governor has been a disaster - particularly, in education. The bottom line is that I now believe Jeb is a dick and that every word of the Globe report is true.
Now, enough! Get on with your life.
