That, plus the fact that a smartphone ($200) does what a car trunk full of RS equipment ($3,000 on up) used to do - and much more.
Best buy price matches. Donyour homework.
You don’t do backups?
Really.
After my experience last week, I say they deserve to die. A RS store near me is discounting stuff before closing. I bought a bunch of stuff, then thought twice about a couple items and decided to return them to another store that wasn't closing. The first store said I could return them to any RS store. The two items were perfectly good unopened packages of high quality flat Ethernet cabling with gold-plated contacts, strain relief and boots. I mentioned flat, not round, so easier to hide on walls and under carpets. Oh, Cat6. Second store says no problem on a refund, and gives me the refund.
I mentioned I thought it better to return to a RS store staying open so they can restock them. Then the clerk tells me they go straight to the trash. Huh? Says their policy is to dump returned items into the trash as used items. I said the package was never opened, it's high quality stuff worth more than $50! "Sorry, that's our policy." If it was a store run by Chinese they would put it back on the shelf and keep discounting it until it sold, even for 10 cents! Radio Shacks' policies are stupid!
When I was young, I bought some batteries and had to go through a rectal exam at checkout. Phone number, address etc. After that I only shopped there when I needed a special part.
Radio Shack is still in business???
Which brings up one of the things that killed Radio Shack, in that electronic devices today are not built to be repaired, they are build to be replaced. This killed a lot of the kids ability to tinker with things. Thoses electronics kits were great, but today when we just throw something away when it breaks, why bother learning?
Bingo! Welcome to Walmart.

Cordially,
