It would appear that the Russians are less defending their motherland at this point and more in a race to be the first ones to get to Berlin and as much of Germany as they can. Looks like they are well on their way.

Looks like the western front is a lot slower (getting more resistance than the eastern front and Ike wanting to “straighten the front” for some reason (maybe to avoid a future “bulge” threat?)) than the eastern front through which it looks like the Ruskies are driving with little resistance. If that is true and deliberate on the German’s part, on wonders why since the Soviets seemed more threatening in the postwar than America and England although German politics were closer matched with the Soviets than the West.

Hitler’s dream of Nazi world domination is being replaced by Stalin’s same dream of Soviet Communist world domination.

For the regular Red Army grunt it is probably about playing catch up with the Hitlerites. The Nazis brought hell on earth to their country for a while and now they get to return the favor.
