The maps are probably somewhat out of date. As of this date, for example, the inmates of the former Stalag Luft III complex (five camps in the Sagan area) are in the midst of a march west to keep them out of the hands of the advancing Russians. While the march was in miserable conditions, there were probably more survivors than there would have been if the camp had been liberated by the Russians.
Don't know about that. My uncle's camp (Stalag Luft I) was liberated by the Red Army. As I recall he said it was a little dicey but the Americans were not maltreated.
