SHOULD WOMEN BE NAVY SEALS?
http://warrior.scout.com ^ | January 11, 2015 | Ray "Cash" Care

Posted on 01/30/2015 5:43:27 PM PST by NKP_Vet

As the Department of Defense considers the question, former Navy SEAL Ray “Cash” Care says he has an answer: Hell no.

A few weeks ago, it was reported in Navy Times that the Department of Defense will make a decision on opening the SEAL and SWCC ranks to women in January of 2016. If the DoD decides in favor of allowing women, the Navy would then notify Congress by July 1, and Congress would then have 30 working days to respond with any concerns. I'd like to jump ahead of Congress, save them some trouble and tell them right here, right now that this is a terrible idea. Concerns? I have many. Now before anyone gets too bent out of shape, understand that this doesn't come from a "women should stay home and be housewives" mentality. From Navy divers to Explosive Ordinance Disposal up to fighter pilots, women's role in the military is crucial to the success and duration of America. I have nothing but admiration for the contributions women make to the defense of our great nation. But I do not think the SEAL teams should allow women. BUD/S, which stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, is the most physically and psychologically grueling schooling a man can go through. My class began with over 120 men. Of that, 16 originals graduated, with some additional guys who were in from other classes who were delayed due to injuries. There's an 80% attrition rate at BUD/S, and that is rounding down.

i think all this talk is actually made to distract from the military’s real mission. i believe this is just another part’of a multi-faceted’attack on the armed forces. gays in the military is another. shit medical care is another. getting rid of px’s and straining families’ budgets is another. drumming outgood christian peopleis another.

Political correctness and menstruation will cause an entire seal team to be eaten by sharks at some point.

From the report of the Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces (report date November 15, 1992, published in book form by Brassey’s in 1993): “The average female Army recruit is 4.8 inches shorter, 31.7 pounds lighter, has 37.4 fewer pounds of muscle, and 5.7 more pounds of fat than the average male recruit. She has only 55 percent of the upper-body strength and 72 percent of the lower-body strength… An Army study of 124 men and 186 women done in 1988 found that women are more than twice as likely to suffer leg injuries and nearly five times as likely to suffer [stress] fractures as men.”

Further: “The Commission heard an abundance of expert testimony about the physical differences between men and women that can be summarized as follows:

“Women’s aerobic capacity is significantly lower, meaning they cannot carry as much as far as fast as men, and they are more susceptible to fatigue.

“In terms of physical capability, the upper five percent of women are at the level of the male median. The average 20-to-30 year-old woman has the same aerobic capacity as a 50 year-old man.”

From the same report: “Lt Col. William Gregor, United States Army, testified before the Commission regarding a survey he conducted at an Army ROTC Advanced Summer Camp on 623 women and 3540 men. …Evidence Gregor presented to the Commission includes:

“(a) Using the standard Army Physical Fitness Test, he found that the upper quintile of women at West point achieved scores on the test equivalent to the bottom quintile of men.

“(c) Only 21 women out of the initial 623 (3.4%) achieved a score equal to the male mean score of 260.

“(d) On the push-up test, only seven percent of women can meet a score of 60, while 78 percent of men exceed it.

“(e) Adopting a male standard of fitness at West Point would mean 70 percent of the women he studied would be separated as failures at the end of their junior year, only three percent would be eligible for the Recondo badge, and not one would receive the Army Physical Fitness badge….”

The following, quoted by Brian Mitchell in his book Women in the Military: Flirting With Disaster (Regnery, 1998) and widely known to students of the military, are results of a test the Navy did to see how well women could perform in damage control — i.e., tasks necessary to save a ship that had been hit.
Test % Women Failing % Men Failing
Before Training After Training Before Training After Training
Stretcher carry, level 63 38 0 0
Stretcher carry/up, down ladder 94 88 0 0
Fire hose 19 6 0 0
P250 pump, carry down 99 99 9 4
P250 pump, carry up 73 52 0 0
P250, start pump 90 75 0 0
Remove SSTO pump 99 99 0 0
Torque engine bolt 78 47 0 0

Our ships can be hit. I know what supersonic stealthed cruise missiles are. So do the Iraqis.

Also from the Commission’s report: “Non-deployability briefings before the Commission showed that women were three times more non-deployable than men, primarily due to pregnancy, during Operations Desert Shield and Storm. According to Navy Captain Martha Whitehead’s testimony before the Commission, ‘the primary reason for the women being unable to deploy was pregnancy, that representing 47 percent of the women who could not deploy.’”

Let’s see. so far, I believe, every woman who tried for the Marines so far - couldn’t make it through boot -

There’s a irrefutable truth that many simply do not want to face” There is a DIFFERENCE between mane and woman - a biological, in-your-face fact...men are built stronger - especially with those extra muscles in their shoulders - which is something I’d want in someone who could drag me out of danger...

It has nothing to do discrimination.

If they can’t get thru’ Marine boot - let ‘em try Seal training.

The danger is - they want to water down the training - that would be diastrous.

Women CrossFitters have a tough enough time completing the 72 hour SEALFIT Kokoro camp, with a 70% washout rate. And this is even given that these are top rated female CrossFitters and given that Kokoro camp is designed to enhance mental toughness and not break people.

if it’s just to stoke someone’s ego forget it. this isn’t pc feminist camp, it’s the armed forces elite teams that expect to be inserted into situations.

Though I agree with your post...

I think this "idea" falls into the category of "you asked for it, now you are going to get it" concept...

As long as the standards of Seal training do not change...

Some ideas need to be tested that are destined to fail...just to be able to say, "been there, done that" ....Bad idea...

I am a female veteran and say no, no, no! Women can and do excellent in many MOS positions. Being a SEAL or equivalent is not one of them. But I bet they will try this, hurt or kill some women and weaken our military. Stupid is as stupid does.

Sometime back, Kathleen Parker wrote a book where she mentioned that women have an oleaginous opening in their body that puts them at a distinct disadvantage for wartime conditions.
