Decades of Suspicions: Did German Companies Aid Syrian Chemical Weapons Program?

When it comes to war crimes and crimes against humanity, the German government is unyielding—particularly when it comes to finding excuses for why it should do nothing when it comes to potential German perpetrators.

For more than 16 months, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government has been in possession of a list containing the names of German companies thought to have helped Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and his father Hafis build up Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal over the course of several decades. Ultimately, it became one of the largest such arsenals in the world. […]

Berlin immediately classified the list and has since kept it under lock and key. The government says that releasing the names would “significantly impair foreign policy interests and thus the welfare of the Federal Republic of Germany.” It also argues that doing so would be akin to releasing “trade secrets” and as such would violate the German constitution. …

IIRC German companies helped Hussein’s (the Iraqi dictator — no the Kenyan one) development of a “super-gun” capable of lobbing a shell all the way to Tel Aviv.

German companies built many of Saddam’s frontier bunker complexes which turned out to be death-traps when we attacked them.

Also Nazis and other Germans aided both Nasser (Egypt) and Assad (Syria) in the chemical and biological weapons programs. An Israeli bomb, many years ago, killed some Nazis/Germans in Egypt and the survivors went back to try to establish the Fourth Reich, or so rumors say.

Alois Brunner, a Nazi war criminal, was protected by the Assads until the day he died.

Nasser’s political party was modeled somewhat on the Nazi model(he helped the Nazis during WW2 fight the British and the Jewish settlers of the Palestinian Mandate), and Nazis helped the anti-British/French governments of Syria and Iraq during WW2.

The Baathist Party was also partially modeled after the “nationalist socialist party” of you know who.

A German company also sold high-pressure firefighting equipment designed for high-rise building fires — to Egypt, which used them to neutralize the Bar-Lev line during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Of course, the USSR shipped piles of weapons including SAM and anti-tank to Egypt and Syria, and helped incite the whole thing, just as they had in 1967.
