State Treasurer Rob McCord's unexpected announcement on Thursday of his resignation, effective Feb. 12, gave rise to speculation about what brought it about so suddenly.
Then within hours after issuing a news release saying he was returning to the private sector after having achieved all of his goals as treasurer, three media outlets cited anonymous sources confirming that McCord is under federal investigation.
Philadelphia TV station WPVI reported that McCord was being investigated for alleged theft of campaign and other funds.
The Morning Call in Allentown subsequently confirmed that report and also reported that the probe has been going on for "a while" and was being run out of the FBI's Harrisburg office.
The Philadelphia Inquirer also is reporting that investigators have been asking questions about "McCord's campaign-related actions in recent months."

Interesting the article did not mention Democrat until the last few paragraphs.
Also interesting that McCord waited until Wolf was governor to resign. Wolf will now appoint another crooked rat.
Pinging to the Q&R group.
The Wolf administration sure is as entertaining as it is commie rat.
It just means he crossed Holder and Obama.
You don’t think they care about corruption, do you?
He’s a democrat. No mention of party in first paragraph or headline, plus it’s Pennsylvania.
It makes you question the timeing of the leak of the investigation/ allegations
Note that the leak took place AFTER THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS !!
Morning P6!
McCord waited TIL Wolfie was sworn in so the Wolfster could “appoint” (wink wink) his interim successor. I find the “troubles” of Kathi Kane more fascinating. Will she face jail time? Will McCord? Remember they threw the book at Judge Orie.
I don’t see how Kane can get out of her mess. Jail time...seems likely.
Then again with Wolf....????
My...everyone seems up late this morning!
Mrs p6 might not have been able to sleep. When I checked my webcam a neighbors car alarm was going off. Took almost an hour for the battery to die.
She’ll be crabby when I get home, LOL!
Another Budd Dwyer?
That’s sure a name from the past! Saw it when it was broadcast LIVE from WTAE TV IIRC.
McCord...it could happen but it sure wouldn’t be covered like Dwyer.
Yeah, I would think it wouldn’t be the best idea for him to give a press conference.
From the PG...No surprise but still disgusting.
Gov. Wolf bans new leases for drilling on state lands
Gov. Tom Wolf banned new oil and gas leases in state parks and forests on Thursday, officially ending plans by the Legislature and the previous administration to raise millions of dollars for the budget this fiscal year through new drilling deals.
In signing the executive order at a ceremony at Benjamin Rush State Park in Philadelphia, Mr. Wolf said natural gas development is a vital element of the states economy, but he made an economic case for preserving the states public natural resources as well.
This is about striking the right balance, he said. Our state parks and forests are unique assets that should be preserved, protected and utilized by our residents for recreational purposes.
Mr. Wolfs order is similar to a ban on new oil and gas leases in state parks and forests that Democratic former Gov. Ed Rendell put in place in October 2010 after the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources issued leases for Marcellus Shale gas development on nearly 140,000 acres of state forests during his tenure.
Oops, posted to the wrong thread....sigh.
No, it’s relevant.
Morning!
My my. It’s getting more interesting here in Pa all the time. Harrisburg with a democrap governer is turning into Chicago!
What year did that happen? I remember hearing that one station actually showed it on tv? I can’t imagine being there and witnessing that!
Most of the drilling and extraction is done on private land and has made many land owners wealthy over the past several years. Wolf is just playing to his enviro-maniacs on the left. He is proving himself to be as far left as his hero Obama. Our state legislature better stay out of the tall grass and clip his wings early on or Pa. will pay a severe price for his governorship.
Read the whole article and did not see the word Democrat even mentioned. My my my my.
Only clue was that he ran for Governor, and Corbett was up unopposed.
