Israel makes a practice of irritating US presidents. On purpose. They know the State Department and the federal bureaucracy hates them. They need to appear aggressive enough to employ the Samson Option should the US decide to withhold resupply. No American president is going to be held even indirectly responsible for the use of nukes, so, like Israel or not, Israel will be resupplied.

Yes, the Samson Option is real. But where the “red line” is must remain a matter for conjecture in order for Israel to maintain long-term viability in conventional weapons. It can’t afford a war of attrition without resupply. Making a American president who doesn’t like them have a stake in their resupply seems like a good strategy.
I speak to Israelis frequently. I have close relatives there and have visited several times.

When it came down to the wire, I have always believed that they will strike them all. And for all our prowess in electronic warfare and stealth, Israel tops us whenever they need to. Even back in the eighties when we were at our pinnacle of technological superiority Israel would do things we couldn’t counter.
I do take it as a given that if Israel faces destruction that cannot be countered conventionally, then (assuming a lef leaning U.S. administration was part of such) the San Fernando Valley will become much more toxic than the area affected by Chernobyl in the wake of the single warhead that will detonate there. Would they hit the Capitol or someplace else too? Depends on how thin they are spread. But that counter would deliver the largest long term hurt with only one (albeit very large) warhead.
One of the days Israel is just going to have had enough and taken them all out. All of them.
Problem solved - for good.
