More than 25 years after the Berlin Walls fall, Russian lawmakers are mulling a proposal to condemn West Germanys 1990 annexation of East Germany as Moscows answer to Western denunciation of its seizure of Crimea.
Sergei Naryshkin, speaker of Russian parliaments lower house, on Wednesday ordered legislators to consider an appeal from a Communist Party deputy to denounce the reunification of Germany as an illegal land grab of East Germany by its western neighbor.
The collapse of Socialist rule in East Germanyofficially known as the German Democratic Republic (GDR)heralded the end of the Cold War, and was met with jubilation in the West.
But the Communist lawmaker sponsoring the proposal argued the absorption of the GDRa Soviet Union satellite since the end of WWIIinto a unified Germany in October 1990 was illegal.

Refresh my memory, but didn’t East Germany, while still a separate country, vote to join West Germany in a newly unified Germany???
One man’s law is another man’s crime, I guess.
I remember that and how the mark replaced the east German currency and how much it cost.
Crimea had the elections, Russia won. But Ukraine didn't sign-off. This difference will, of course, be lost on the Russians.
Is the lawmaker also proposing to resume the old Soviet empire?
Belarus has adopted a new law that states the appearance of any foreign fighters on its territory will be viewed as an act of aggression, even if they cannot be identified as regular troops.
The legislation, which takes effect on Feb. 1, seems to be Minsk's response to Russia's actions in neighboring Ukraine, where unmarked Russian troops overran Crimea prior to its annexation last spring and where Russian fighters have led pro-Moscow-separatists in the east.
declaring don’t make it so
RE: Russia may declare 1990 reunification illegal (i.e. West/East Germany)
Hmmm... will they eventually declare the sale of Alaska illegal too?
I bet some Germans might be willing to agree, with as much money as they’ve pumped into the Eastern sector over the years.
“Mr. Putin, put back up this wall.”
Yes, but so supposedly did the people of Crimea vote to join with Russia. Which is probably why the Russians are pushing this argument.
Hmmm
Russia decided to stop pretending the entire USSR was Russian imperialist occupation of sovereign nations apparently.
Oops... Wasn’t
I see German military equipment shipments to Ukraine in the near future.
It’s a “done deal” ... :-) ...

I actually read an article in the Moscow Times that claimed exactly that! Basically, they claim the Tsar had no right to sell off a piece of Russia to anybody.
Ich bin ein Badlinker
Tell that to atzlan morons, they've got the same kind stupid goin on.
