People want a car that delivers value.

I have no doubt that is what the Model S PS85D is designed to do.

It adds that fun factor to EV driving and you will impress your GF or wife if you own one and turn on that “insane mode.”

Yes. A 1/4 mile drag strip isn’t a drive to work for sure.

For those not familiar with electric motors, you basically have full torque available from 0 to the max rpm. All future aircraft carriers will all have linear motor aircraft launch systems.

I drove the first model a few years ago in NYC (Lotus body). It is an amazing car, its like taking off in an airplane, there are no gears so you just keep accelerating until you let off the ‘gas’ pedal.

- Should they be tax subsidized? HELL NO
- Will you break down in the winter on the side of the road because batteries suck in cold weather? Probably.
- They are COAL powered unless you have nuclear power feeding your home.
- Building and recycling batteries takes massive energy and creates massive waste. Greenies are stupid if they think they are helping mother earth buy buying an EV.

Again, very cool car if you can make it work with your daily life.

Range is still a problem. You can’t just jump into any electric car and drive 500 miles in one day.

Few people drive that far in a day.

For a commuting drive, the range is more than sufficient.

Instant torque only if you want it! Instant torque is MOST fun going to the grocery store! At least for those that enjoy driving mean machines.

I agree with you.

11.6 sec 1/4 mile is quite quick, but there are a host of cars out that post better times than that.

A Nissan GTR would leave it for dead, at about 1/2 the price.

Well the version shown in the video, the P85D, is rated at 285 miles, but that is for normal driving. You would obviously get a lot less when accelerating like this, just like you would in a gasoline car.

As far as recharging, you can go to a Tesla Supercharger station and get an 80% charge in 30 minutes, or 50% in 20 minutes.

Actually most of the people I know want a car that delivers them to work every day reliably. Cars depreciate in value unless they're put in storage and never driven and Tesla is no different despite bearing the touch of St Musk.

Most people drive 100 miles a day round trip.

That’s to and from work and stopping by for groceries and for going out on local sight-seeing trips.

No one is recommending EVs for extended vacation travel but for every day driving, they can handle it.

Not true. Torque basically declines linearly to max rpm where you have ZERO torque.
