California Declares Electronic Cigarettes a Health Threat
ABC News ^ | January 28, 2015 | By FENIT NIRAPPIL

California health officials on Wednesday declared electronic cigarettes a health threat that should be strictly regulated like tobacco products, joining other states and health advocates across the U.S. in pushing back against the fast-growing device.

The California Department of Public Health report says e-cigarettes emit cancer-causing chemicals and get users hooked on nicotine, although there is still more research to be done on the immediate and long-term health effects.

"Without action, it is likely that California's more than two decades of progress to prevent and reduce traditional tobacco use will erode as e-cigarettes re-normalize smoking behavior," the report says.

>"I’ve been struggling to stay away from cig’s."

Pay at the pump! Stay out of gas stations!

They appear to be in the business of selling gas, but addictions are their money makers!

You practically have to climb over a mountain of cigarettes just to get to the booze and porn.

Let me send a message to these people. It is not acceptable, and there’s going to be a backlash and people are going to outlaw them in public places.

Who in the world do you think you are, to be "sending messages" to people who are minding their own business and enjoying something that does no harm to anyone else? Seriously, wtf?

Let me send you a message. I have a serious allergy to scallops and crabs, so much so that airborne particles will cause a reaction. These reactions aren't like you whiny little "I almost puked" -- there is a very real danger involved, and, even though the reactions are usually kept under control, they lead to hours or even days of discomfort.

Here is what I do: I make responsible decisions about where to go, and what to do, and I don't ask other people to pay my price. If I go to a restaurant, and am not careful, that is my fault, not the fault of someone who is enjoying a meal that is far, far, FAR more dangerous to others than second hand smoke, let alone second hand vapor.

I don't whine to the restaurant owner, I don't pester the diners, I don't petition the government. I don't try to launch a vendetta campaign against seafood eaters. And the reason is simple. If I did, I would be being indescribably selfish. Why in the world should others have to do without, just for my benefit?

You, sir, are indescribably selfish.

San Mateo, the county just south of SF in Cali)=, banned smoking e-cigarettes in all multi-residence dwellings, (e.g., apartments and condominiums). The same asshats exempted smoking marijuana.

Over 9 months for me. I haven’t even had the desire to take a single puff off a cigarette since the day I bought my e-cig. And I smoked hard for 45+ years!

Good luck to you.

Might the true complaint be that the eCigs emit no tax cash to the ninny state? ;)

“I avoid ingesting anything that comes from China. Even our dogs don’t get anything from China...”

Same here.

There are some brands of fluid that are MADE IN USA. ‘Criss-Cross’ brand is made from all USA products and the only one I use.

No, you sir our the selfish one. Your addictions have an effect on the people around you.

You are asking the government to force others to behave in a manner you prefer. There is no getting around it: that is an utterly selfish act. Just because you "almost puked" (and you survived the utter horror that that must have entailed), you do not have the right to get the government to apply force on others who are doing you no harm. Utterly selfish, inconsiderate, rude, and petty. There is no way around it.

I don't smoke. And if I did, any consideration I show would be because I choose to show that consideration, not because somebody gets their panties all knotted up at the mere thought that someone was enjoying something that they didn't, and goes crying to the government to get their way. I guarantee that you have at least a dozen habits, addictions, or behaviors that I find distasteful, or, heaven forbid, bring me to the brink of "puking". I, unlike you and the rest of the pearl clutchers, am not a selfish person, and therefore I don't ask the government to stick a gun in your face and tell you not to do those things, because they bother me.

I would rather have to face the occasional smell, sound, or sight that I didn't like, than to be a supporter of those that would take our liberty, and to know that I was as inconsiderate, rude, and selfish, as those that do.

Wifey and I have both switched to “E” for around 3 years....’tween the two of us, there’s an internist, gastro, and cardiologist - they’re all good with our use.

I would recommend a company in Hartland,Wisconsin called Johnson Creek. The website is www.smokejuice.com or www.johnsoncreeksmokejuice.com . You can read their FAQ’s asked question on their website. Their smoke juice is proudly made in American and creates American jobs. I smoked for 38 years and quit 2 1/2 years ago with the help from e-cigs and I had tried the patch and everything else out there to quit to no avail. I feel I am in the best health of my life thanks to Johnson Creek. In fact, I just came in from the gym and saw the thread so I had to chime in. They also offer Propylene Glycol free smoke juice to their customers if you like, but I don’t think there is really a problem with the PG juice. It’s just politicians missing my cig tax money in a very blue city. It’s feels so good that they’re not getting my money anymore and I love it. Johnson Creek is a great company and their ordering and delivery is extremely fast. I live on the east coast and they always get the order out really fast. Plus, I feel really good about it being an American company and helping them create American Jobs and no ordering god knows what China may put in their products. Best e-cigs company out there. Don’t waste your time or money on the e-cigs they sell in convenience store. The disposable e-cigs don’t even last a half a day and I have paid up to $10.00 for just one e-cig when the advertisement said it was like two packs of cigs. Bull I say. Johnson Creeks juice and cartridges (filters) last a really long time. I have used a cartridge up to two weeks or longer. For those not familiar with e-cigs you fill the filter with the juice so it’s very economical. I have have kept track off my orders and it only cost me about $15.00 a month to smoke my e-cigs from Johnson Creek. Now compare that to how much a carton of real cigarettes cost today and you see why the corrupt Pols, Big tabacco and Big Pharma, (Chantix) are having a fit.

I am cutting way back on real tobacco via eCigs. My husband and my non-smoking friends admit THERE IS NO ODOR as far as they are concerned, even when I am within inches of them. All say they can detect cigarette odor in infinitesimal amounts. So far, my tobacco usage is down to 1/3 of what it was.

The tobacco-flavored things have barely any taste and the vapor is water vapor. All that is in them is glycerine and propylene glycol plus nicotine, which, in and of itself, is odorless. In addition, the amount of vapor is so small, there is no way it could *flow up* the nose of someone walking by. I have inhaled the emitted water vapor of my own eCig. It doesn’t even sting, let alone smell.

I wonder if you saw someone vaping hash oil? I have no idea if that has any odor, though. There are flavored nicotine cartridges, which I haven’t tried. Hard to see how cherry, mint or vanilla could be offensive, however.

No comment, no idea ... I quit without them

I TRIED, but my wife threw a fit and threw it away and life REALLY sucked for a few days ... but I THINK they're OK

Again, I'm not sure what the cancer causing ingredient IS ... nicotine or tar

As my father used to say, "He's smelling his upper lip", and NOT an ecig -- they don't have any aroma whatsover.

I'll one up on your stealth vaping -- both wifey and I have done 'em - mostly just for the heck of it - in hospital pre and post procedure areas.....nary a clue to anybody outside the curtain.

What a curious cartoon. California is the “Golden State.” New Jersey is the “Garden State.”
