Forget the post-PC era. The Mac just continues to get bigger. For its fiscal 2015 first quarter that ended Dec. 27, 2014, Apple sold 5.5 million Macs. That’s up 9% year-over-year and up 14% from the previous quarter and brought in revenue of US$6.9 billion.

Apple has gained market share verses Windows PCs in all quarters since 2005 but one. The Mac has surpassed overall PC growth for 34 of the last 35 quarters. The Mac’s unit share of the worldwide PC market has grown from 2.1% in 2005 to 5.5% in 2013. Apple’s U.S. market share is somewhere between 10% and 14%, depending on whose statistics you believe.

Uh the Mac is a PC ;-) It runs Windows very well.

A lot of people have said the best (Windows) PC they've ever used was on their Mac, either via dual-boot or VM.

May as well head over to Zimbabwe. White people are not welcome there, either. But at least you can go on safari.

Funny, i’ve been using PC’s since the early 90’s and i have never had a problem with them.
Mac’s on the other hand come across as a child’s toy to me.

Vista was the killer for me, too. Switched to Mac instead of getting a new PC, and never regretted it.

Once you go Mac, you can’t go back.

Apple is selling the iPad 2 model in their web store. It comes with a full two years warranty, if you want it. It runs just fine and doesn’t have those problems. SO, the situation here is that one just needs to clear their machine and set it up in the factory default condition, and you’ll have the exact same iPad 2 as they’re selling on their website.

Or you could go to Newegg.com and hand pick PC components that will blow away any Mac for a fraction of the cost.

That would be for the Democrat that owned one. The Republican who owned one would have a different animal on his screen ... LOL ...

And have a significantly worse user experience. I use a PC (as both a software developer and a systems admin) on a daily basis at work, I know the differences between the two systems.

Specs aren’t everything.

Not to mention, the “overpriced Mac” line is pretty much an outdated myth. When you compare desktop systems or notebooks sold by other manufacturers, Macs are generally in the middle of the price range for machines of equivalent power and features.

It’s just that Apple doesn’t make low-end Macs, so their products are all in the higher spec and price ranges. (It’s where the profit is, after all.)

As far as BYOPC is concerned, you could level the same critique at, for example, Dell.

It comes “NEUTRAL” ... and then the user makes it whatever he or she (or “it”) wants ... :-) ...

Wasn’t trying to be provocative. I’m genuinely interested.

Well, I pinged Swordmaker, because he is really the “keeper of the stats”. I think he checks here in the evening, so you might not hear back until then.

Yeah, I don't particularly care for Macs (used them for years as an educator) but Microsoft better figure out WTH they're doing with these unending Windows flops.

I just got a new desktop last year with Windows 7. It's OK but nothing special. When this one rolls over, I'll go Mac on the next one if the current version (Win 16 or 17, where ever they are at that time) is still messed up.

IMO, bring back XP or even 98.

Understood. I just want to make sure Sword gets the message as well. He and I like to argue about this sorta stuff, but I would like to see the market penetration for Apple in corporate circles. I doubt it’s as hefty.

“I can’t use a Mac. I’m a heterosexual.”

Disgusting too!

Now that you mention it, his comment really does raise serious questions about what he actually does with his computers...

You know that the Mac OS X is the interface which is on top of the UNIX engine that it runs on. If you’re interested in that, there’s a lot you can do with it.

“I suspect that Windows 8 had a lot to do with Apple’s market share increase”

It is probably interrelated.

I read that the Microsoft Surface software will NOT be updatable to Windows 10, as well.

That device was their supposed entry into the hardware market, for touch tablets, ie. direct competitors with iPads.

I would liken Microsoft today, with GM a few years ago. Try as they might, they can’t do very much differently or better. They resort continually to putting new faces on old products with some changes.

A longtime friend of mine is a computer consultant, and he said Windows 8 when it came out, was lousy for desktop mouse users.

I recently got a 8.1 touchscreen device, and I find the interface to be cluncky compared to what Android shows is possible.

My friend has since changed over entirely to Apple for his own devices, after decades with Windows.

I think many PC users actually learned how to operate the machine, rather than have everything done for you. Manual transmission vs. automatic, which I gather is also resulting in many more that cannot drive a manual at all.

We were comfortable with this and knew what to do, where the Mac crowd was helpless until the funny little icons were invented to show them how to do things.
