British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has apologized after describing black people as 'colored' on US television, saying he is 'an idiot' and is 'devastated to have caused offense'.
...Sherlock star ... racial term ... diversity ... British screens ... Tavis Smiley....
... hundreds took to social media to condemn....
...Cumberbatch ... issuing an apology... 'incorrect'... 'offensive' ...
... 'I'm devastated ...
... sincere apologies. ... idiot ...

Somebody please clue me in, what is the ‘correct’ term to use when describing British Negros.
I wonder what all the hard working foreign born people of color feel about being lumped in with our precious negros?
I wish someone would explain why colored people is such an offensive term while people of color is not.
There is no logical explanation for this. There is no logical explanation as to why the term “colored people” fell into disuse, and is now considered insulting.
There is no explanation as to why the term “Negro” fell into disuse.
There is no explanation as to why the world glommed onto Jesse Jackson’s speech in which he asked that the term “African American” be used. It immediately became an accepted widely used term just because Jesse Jackson made a speech.
I think they always want us off balance, so we trip up and use some allegedly insulting or outdated term, so that they can say we are all racist for not keeping up with all the latest terminology.
That crazy azzed cracka, honkie, white boy can’t talk about them that way.
The Daily Mail certainly developed a large part of their internet page to this nonsense...
I will attempt.
In my alter-troll disguise on the Democrat Underground, I once asked that same question and was told the following:
"Colored People" indicates that the people in question had no control over their "color" and to be labeled as such indicates an involuntary servitude, whereas, use of the term "people of color", is indicative of a class of people that have color, be it black, brown, yellow...anything but white.
Makes sense, right?
Really...this is what I was told by a liberal idiot that thinks (thought) I was a fellow traveler in his reparation seeking, welfare-promoting rants.
Make of it what you will.
My Friends and Relatives, whom are Black or of mixed race, use the term Squirrelly”! Of course that is amongst each other! ;^]
Someone should apologize to him for his name being Benedict Cumberbatch. Honestly, that’s about as realistic a name as Oswald Cobblepot.
“People Of Color” = GOOD!
“Colored People” = BAD!
Kiss that Oscar good bye.
And therefore rasis! by definition.
It is our heavy cross to bear.
They don’t like “colored” because it can sound like someone colored them in with a crayon.
Limeys.
You’re pretty much automatically assumed to be a racist with a name that “white”. It doesn’t help that he is pale as a ghost either.
Maybe the easiest way to handle all of this is to only specify race when it comes to ‘whites’. Let's divide the world into ‘people’ and ‘pigment-challenged people’. It's easier. Example: “Two men walked into a bar” = two non-whites walked into a bar. “Two pigment-challenged men walked into a bar” = two white guys walked into a bar.
But calling them “people of color” is A-OK!
If that's a "white" name, I don't wanna be white!
I really miss Mr. Safire’s brilliant writing. In this new enlightened age, very few writers come close to the quality of his writing; George Will and Mark Steyn are both in that select group.
