I have one old timeline that has for January 28 “the Ardennes salient is finally eradicated.” So, by that measure, tomorrow.
As a Dodger fan for 58 years, I protest.
As a Cub fan since 1973, I simply shrug my shoulders, and then have another Old Style.
I went to a Cub game last August with my friends. The ceremonial presentation of the game ball was done by a guy celebrating his 100th birthday that day. All my buddies thought that was really cool, until I pointed out to them that when the guy was born, it had already been six years since the Cubs last won a World Series.

Joe Madden is with the Cubs now. If he can put together a winning baseball team in Tampa Bay, he sure as heck ought to be able to do it in Chicago.
The problem with Cub owners and GMs has been that they thinl all they need is a guy who can hit 40 homers and the fans will be happy. I wore my #14 jersey Sunday in memoriam. And I don’t think it will be this year, although a playoff appearance is possible. 2016 is more likely.
When I die, I expect heaven to be a warm sandy beach...and across the road behind the beach is Wrigley Field. You can’t miss it; it’s right between IU’s Assembly Hall and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

There is no doubt that the Soviets committed numerous genocides against many peoples.
And Nazi genocide was certainly not limited to Jews.
But, the most intense and virulent and focused genocide the Nazis committed was most certainly against the Jews. They seem to have cared more about destroying the Jews than anything else, in fact. It was demonic in its nature and expression.
And yes, the Reich is crumbling. Although in area, Nazi Germany is larger than it was on September 1, 1939, it is a hollow shell. Evidence of disintegration is everywhere.
Hitler and his henchmen are delusional by this time. They seemed to forget they attacked and occupied Western Europe before they attacked Russia. They forgot unleashing the Blitz on Britain and very nearly invading it. They forgot their ally's sneak attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet and that it was Germany who declared war on the U.S.
And the fools have been making their main effort for the last nine months in the West while neglecting the East where Guderian told them repeatedly the Russians were amassing a vast army.
In military matters Hitler really was at heart just a Bavarian corporal.
I wonder if that is becoming more apparent to the Western Allied leaders, in the wake of the pessimism engendered by the events of December.
I guess it doesn't matter that much, as long as they kept pounding away, which they most certainly were doing.
So, compared to Petco, it's much easier, not that much of an accomplishment really, to have a 40-HR bopper in Wrigley (25± at home, 15± on the road). But to have an adequate offense there, you'd really need two of them, or the equivalent.
(The corollary, of course, is that statistical expectations for pitchers in Wrigley must be tempered.)

If I were an Allied planner, I would have little reason to expect anything but more slogging and hacking through German defenses. The only reason to feel optimism is that the Germans must have shifted forces east to face the Soviets.

But, yes, the utterly focused attack on the Jews with the express intent of killing them all was satanic to the core. Even the Nazi symbols were satanic symbols like the “zz” labels for the SS, etc. I just saw “Schindler’s List” which captures the demonic frenzy the Nazis had in all of this.
