De Blasio Orders Indefinite Street Shutdown Tonight During Blizzard
New York Observer (via Drudge) ^ | 1/26/15 | Will Brederman

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this afternoon that he is shutting the city’s streets, schools and parks tonight until further notice as the city braces for a blizzard of historic proportions.

Alternate side parking will be suspended through Wednesday, perhaps longer, and there will be no garbage pickups at least through mid-week. The mayor asked that citizens not attempt to clear their cars in the next several days, and not shovel snow into the streets or bury fire hydrants.

He also advised that New Yorkers remain indoors throughout the duration of the storm. Non-authorized persons caught driving in non-emergency situations will be subject to NYPD summons or even arrest.

“You’re not going anywhere until we lift the emergency order,” he said. “People have to make smart decisions from here on, careful decisions, recognize this as an emergency. It is not business as usual.”

Hopefully LI doesn't have the same problem of tipping over that Guam has.

That is true. Two plows in tandem plowing nothing. It’s happened before—one plow going around and around the same block.

What part of Long Island? I’m heading out there in the morning - taking the Port Jefferson ferry.

The island runs west (NYC) to east (Montauk). Right now, NYC is only getting 3-4 inches of snow while the east end is getting 20-30 inches. Given the tremendous weight imbalance between west end and east end, a Guam-style tipping is a possibility!

We got about 11” in Queens. Areas that are about equidistant to me got 9”, 11” and 12” respectively.

Have been other similar outcomes, usually brought on by an overcompensation after some big screwup beforehand.
You mean like when a bad snowstorm hit NY shortly after DiBlasio was inaugurated - and Brooklyn streets didn’t get plowed at all?
