Normally I’d say that they are over-reacting; however 57 million feet of snow might be nudging a record, eh?
The point was not about government, but about how even preppers were flooded out of their homes, remember that people were chopping holes in their roofs to escape, their preparations and food were destroyed.
Sandy did hit us really hard. They’re proclaiming this to be the end. Yet in 1996, we had a blizzard that dropped at least 4ft of snow. I remember it being as high as the cars.
Yep, 57 million feet is mighty deep! This is historic!
In more than a hundred years of record-keeping, snowfall in New York City has only cleared the 20-inch mark a handful of times.
However, the ...”36inches predicted in the storm now approaching”.... the city would dwarf even the current record-holder. So they have every reason to be concerned....especially with the way the patterns are converging there....
Below are the top five recorded snowfall figures for a single storm:
1. February 11-12, 2006: 26.9inches
2. December 26-27, 1947: 25.8inches
3. March 12-14, 1888: 21.0inches
4. February 25.26, 2010: 20.9inches
5. January 7-8, 1996: 20.2inches
I bet you guys are...however though we do have storms here...we’re not accustomed to things shutting down as many are doing....and many will have no choice but to.
If this one hits like they’re saying it will be historic....the most that’s hit NEw Ypor was 20 some inches...this is suppose to hit 36 plus...and this with high winds so the drifts will be huge as well.
IIRC that Blizzard of 1888 is what prompted New York City to build its subway. The city had elevated trains at the time but they couldn’t handle “The Great White Hurricane”. Traffic was brought to a standstill for a week.
Tomorrow's forecast calls for heavy snow and intermittent glaciers. Don't forget your overcoat and your harpoon if you leave the house.
It’s a common joke here in Indiana that everyone has to rush out for milk, eggs, and bread everytime the forecasters predict so much as 4 inches.
This time of year, I always keep extra of all 3 in the beer fridge in the garage.
Freezers and cabinets already full. Plenty of wood for the woodstove and extra propane for the grill.
I thought I was the only one, at first I re-read it to make sure it wasn’t my eyes.
“’historic’ blizzard that threatens to drop THREE FEET of snow on New York City and up to 57 million on East Coast”
Now that would be HISTORIC ROFL
I’d be getting things to hunker down with to be sure....if I had kids...no school and I’d call it as so regardless. Too any people wait and see when it comes to their kids...I never did.
We’re snowing here already...ground fully covered and about three inches it looks like thus far.
Here there’s no traffic to speak of...but then the hour is late too...just seems so quiet, moreso then usual.
Because here in Pa. we’re already getting a storm I went out this noon and got ..guess........eggs..bread..milk... and a few other “comfort” items.
I so miss a wood stove ....had one for years which sat on a marble base.....one of those you put just one or two logs in and it just puts out the heat like you wouldn’t believe. We loved it!
There is nothing as nice as wood stove heat ....wonderful!
ROFL Thanks for the laugh =)
Warnings have also been issued around New Jersey and New England, with authorities saying inadequately prepared people could die making unnecessary journeys.
The National Weather Service in Boston said that ‘travel may become impossible and life-threatening’. The storm is slated to be accompanied by winds hitting speeds of 65 miles per hour in places. Some 57million people are believed to be in the path of the storm.
Don’t let the thought of 57 million feet of snow intimidate you. The weight of it should cause it to compress down to just a couple of miles of diamond hard ice in no time! ;^)
