Exit polls suggest a historic victory for the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece's closely fought general election.

One poll suggested Syriza took 35.5% of the votes, and the other suggested it took 39.5%, well ahead of ruling New Democracy party on 23%-27%.

It is unclear whether Syriza has enough votes to govern the country alone.

Syriza's Alexis Tsipras has pledged to renegotiate Greece's debt arrangement with international creditors....

Nice. There’s always another elite willing to step up and try out with your money and your life.

As I asked on another thread: why are the Greeks so radically left wing? Why have they been so for so long?

O'Sullivan's First Law: "All organizations that are not actually right wing will over time become left wing."

Austerity imposed by the EU was detested and I detest the EU and believe in the sovereignty of nations.

Of course Leftist policies aren’t good, but neither are the New World Order austerity policies of Republicans and Democrats in this country and their sister parties in Europe.

I want an authentic conservative policy of balancing budgets and keeping taxes low. No Mickey Mouse trimming of spending and raising taxes at the same time ala austerity.

“There will never be enough, because stupidity has an inelastic supply curve.”

Or is it, that there are just too few on the Right hand side of the Bell curve?

O'Sullivan's First Law: "All organizations that are not actually right wing will over time become left wing."

Does that apply to nations as well? Especially nations that used to be anti-Communist and claim to have invented "western civilization?"

For now I will look at the bright side of this, repudiation of the EU.

There are better ways to vote against the EU like UKIP in the UK.

I hope they do well on May 7th.

People want a better life.

And they deserve it if they can make it happen. All the Greeks have to do is, e.g., start to build a better car than VW or Toyota et al. and they'll be well off. It's really that simple!

A "nation" is a type of "organization."

Yup.

Its a rejection of the EUSSR and the notion Brussels’ bureaucrats have the right to override national sovereignty.

Maybe the Greeks have chosen poorly but that is the right of free men.

"All past instances of failed communism (which means all past instances of communism) prove nothing to the dedicated liberal who believes (or pretends to believe) that the next time will be the perfect time."

They are nihilists, believing in nothing, taking delight in destruction of all that is good. They are their father's children.

“Their idea of “austerity” is stupid. Greece needs to slash spending to stay within their budget is all.”

If “slashing spending” isn’t “austerity,” I don’t know what is. Please explain.

The problem with the Greeks for decades is that they are a lazy lot of socialists who want to lay around and get paid to do it. Just like the Gibbsmedats here. But with the Greeks it’s a tougher sell because they weren’t ever slaves.

We should reject socialism while repudiating transnational institutions.

Europe is a myth.

The Greeks just voted themselves more money.

They probably voted to stop repaying their debt and to increase government spending.

They couldn't vote for Germany to actually finance the increased spending.

You forgot “E”

We failed because we were not the right people to implement these wonderful programs. The next group will finally get it “right” if only you will let them “try!”

And the corollary:

We will need to let the conservatives rebuild for a time so that there will again be lots of money for us to squander.

According to this chart, supposedly sourced from the IMF, they actually cut spending 25% between 2009 and 2013(est).

When the money you're overspending comes from those other nations, and you can't print your own, you have to give up some sovereignty.
