In years past, health ills such as infections picked up at the hospital during treatment were just considered the cost of doing business, Biden said. But then people like the founders of the Patient Safety Movement decided these sorts of infections and deaths didn’t have to be. They spoke out.
“You’ve broken down the silence,” Biden told the several hundred doctors, hospital administrators and patient advocates attending. He added: “You’ve changed the vocabulary. You’ve changed the mindset when it comes to preventable deaths.”
Hospital-acquired infections declined by 17 percent from 2010 to 2013, resulting in 50,000 lives saved and 1.3 million fewer patients harmed.
Much progress remains to be made, Biden said, though eliminating hospital-caused deaths isn’t impossible.

in 2014, my HEALTHY (still shovelling her own snow) 79 yr. old mother went to the Dr. for flu symptoms.
He tossed her to the ER.
THEY had no clue, but went through every check box in their ‘procedure’ manual - hooked her up to IV’s, never ending save the hospital’s butt testing...
Oh yeah, they “forgot” to feed her for over 4 days. When she got weaker, they stuffed the respirator down her throat and continuted pumping her with fluid.
They killed her.
Like I said, they followed their lame-brained ‘procedure’ manual to save the hospital’s butt - like they were TRAINED to do in medical school.
Never mind the healty patient with some small problems got weakened to DEATH in the process.

If the ‘new’ Congress is serious in righting the nation’s wrongs, the first thing they must do is to stop that whole “Obamacare exempt” business and all those f’n perks they assign themselves.

Well, when you state that the hospital starved your healthy mother to death, it does defy belief.
I work in a hospital, we do not starve healthy people to death, and we do not put healthy people on ventilators. They are on ventilators because they are very, very sick.
Primary care doctors do not send healthy patients to the ER.

We haven’t time and this isn’t the place to go over the whole ordeal and I’m not here to trash ALL hospital workers. But I’m familiar with the way it USED to work.
These folks are on an assembly line nowadays. They have procedures they MUST follow, even when common sense says otherwise.
She went in last February, died in June. I still have never been given an explaination other than the ‘heart attack’ (baloney) she had when they took her off the ventilator the final time.
No offense to you, but the medical folks at that hospital had an uppity, “we know, you just don’t” attitude. Folks who were clearly young enough to have just graduated med school last year... They are NOT an elite class.
