New Delhi: US President Barack Obama, who has often talked about the influence of Mahatma Gandhi on his life, on Sunday paid homage to the 'apostle of peace' at Rajghat soon after his arrival on a three-day visit.
Obama placed a wreath at Gandhi's memorial and bowed before the Samadhi with folded hands. He went straight to Rajghat from the ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. During his last visit in 2012 too, he had paid tributes to Gandhi at the memorial.
The American President was presented a replica of Gandhi's famous 'charkha' by the officials of the memorial. Obama also planted a sapling of Peepal tree (Ficus religiosa) at the Rajghat and wrote on the visitor's book.

Look at his smile. As much as I disregard and out right loathe his world view, I respect Gandhi. If only everyone were more like Gandhi and less like Obama. The world would be a much better place.
But I am a realist. I know that smile. I have worn that smile. It’s the smile you wear when you don’t really care, and are just doing something because people are observing you . Even Michelle’s.
I could be dead wrong, but look at that smile, and tell me it isn’t an arrogant only doing this because I want to look good smile.

Besides a self serving speech at the UN, the skeptic in me wishes I had access to a searchable file of both of his "autobiographies" where this could be shown.

England has a queen to attend ceremonial functions and since Obama has been president, so does the United States.
I did notice that he favorably compared Gandhi and MLK and non-violence.
He has never mentioned the 330,000 White Union soldiers that died to free the slaves, could not even attend the 150th commemoration of BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG, where the Union took 23,049 casualties: 3,155 dead, 14,529 wounded, 5,365 captured and missing.
Hate him.
I have to admit that they are world class phonies.

At least he knew something about him. I find it difficult to believe that a young Indonesian Muslim (ages 6-10)in the late 60s would be taught anything about a Hindu who died in 1948.
I’m more disposed to chalk this Gandhi hype up to the same crap the Clintons always spewed at the spur of the moment when it suited them.
