This is just a replay of what Lenin and Stalin did to the Kulaks (successful peasant farmers whose farms had grown larger than their neighbors). They had to destroy these farms, the only functioning source of food production, because their very existence proved the Soviet system was wrong. Millions of Soviet people died from the resulting famine.
