As if to prove that global-warming alarmism is in fact a political movement rather than a scientific one, the U.S. Senate, composed primarily of carbon dioxide-spewing attorneys, voted this week to declare that the climate is changing as it always has, and that (natural) climate change is “not a hoax.”
Warming theorists celebrated the news, as if a majority vote by lobbyist-controlled politicians — who remain less popular than cockroaches in most polls — constituted evidence of Truth. In the end, though, despite their cheering, many climate alarmists apparently either did not understand the measure or were deliberately trying to mislead the public about it. The Senate never agreed with their increasingly discredited catastrophic man-made global-warming theory. Instead, lawmakers simply stated the obvious: the climate changes, just as it has since Earth’s creation and just as it will likely continue to change as long the planet exists.
It was an attempt by alarmist Democrats to divide Republicans. However, the GOP ultimately "punked" the alarmists by celebrating and voting in favor of the climate change declaration. Realist Republicans pointed out that the climate has always changed naturally, and so they would gladly vote for the amendment, introduced by Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and co-sponsored by climate realist Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), reiterating that fact. The widely ridiculed Senate vote came just days after NASA came under fire from scientists for again misleading the media and the public about warming and as the public becomes increasingly skeptical.
The “not a hoax” climate measure, attached to the doomed Keystone XL pipeline legislation as an amendment, was approved 98 to 1.
However, that is not because the Senate has suddenly fallen victim to global-warming hysteria. Rather, even the Senate’s leading climate realist, Environment Committee Chairman Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), voted in favor of it and urged his colleagues to do the same. Inhofe, who wrote the book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, actually co-sponsored the amendment. On Twitter before the vote, Inhofe reiterated his view that man-made climate change was a hoax and called on his Senate colleagues to vote yes on the amendment. Citing scientific, archeological, and scriptural evidence, the conservative senator noted that while climate change is real, the notion that humans are responsible for “climate change” is a “hoax.”
Even much of the establishment press ultimately acknowledged that alarmist Senate Democrats’ “gotcha” scheme had backfired in spectacular fashion. "With Inhofe's re-framing the question, the Democrats, trying to engineer a gotcha moment, ended up empty-handed on the vote, with neither the satisfaction of nailing down opposition to scientific consensus [sic] and without a point of leverage for future discussions of addressing the warming planet [sic]," wrote global warming theorist Philip Bumb in the Washington Post in a piece headlined "Jim Inhofe flips the script on Democratic climate-change-is-a-hoax vote." Politico, meanwhile, reported that Republicans had "outfoxed" the Senate warming theorists.
Just hours before the Senate vote took place, the president claimed in his State of the Union speech that “climate change” — not tyranny, genocide, starvation, poverty, or mass-murder — was the greatest threat to future generations. In a rebuttal to Obama’s increasingly outlandish climate alarmism, though, Senator Inhofe lambasted the quackery posing as science. Calling the Obama EPA’s “climate” decrees a “wealth redistribution scheme” while blasting Obama’s “socialist agenda,” the popular Oklahoma senator ridiculed the administration’s bogus efforts to “save us from global warming.” He also said Obama’s “climate” gimmicks would cost hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of well-paying jobs while doing essentially nothing to stop the climate from changing, as it always has. “If we have learned anything over the past 6 years of economic hardship, Americans are resilient,” Inhofe concluded, saying Obama’s climate schemes were really about imposing the “largest tax increase” in the nation’s history. “By reining in President Obama’s overregulation and by rebuilding a strong national security, we can survive the Obama Administration.”
Ironically, despite the misleading headlines in the establishment press claiming that the Senate voted to declare that climate change was “not a hoax,” a separate amendment purporting to find humans guilty of causing global warming failed miserably. That unscientific language, unsupported by real data and contradicted by growing amounts of observable evidence, was introduced by Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii). It claimed, among other provisions, that “human activity significantly contributes to climate change.” In the end, the measure came up 10 votes short, even though five “Republicans in Name Only” (RINOs) voted in favor of it. Among the Republicans was waffling neocon Lindsey Graham, who said he “did not know” how much man contributes to alleged warming while blasting alarmists for making climate change into a “religion.” Another related amendment on climate change, without the word “significantly,” also went down in flames.
Of course, climate alarmists anxious to impose tyranny on Americans under any pretext celebrated what they viewed as progress in the effort to exploit discredited man-made warming theories for the cause of socialism. “I think what is exciting is that today we saw for the first time — a number, a minority — but some Republicans going onboard and saying that climate change is real and it’s caused by human activity,” gushed self-proclaimed Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), calling the scheming “a step forward” for Republicans. “And I suspect that you are going to see in the months to come, more and more Republicans forced to acknowledge that reality.” In reality, there has been no global warming for over 18 years, more than half of the satellite record, according to NASA’s own data. Meanwhile, sea-ice is at record high levels, and virtually every falsifiable prediction and climate model put forward by warming alarmists has been proven wrong by reality. Many experts now say global cooling is the real threat to humanity.
Actual climate scientists, meanwhile, were busy ridiculing the Senate ahead of the vote — taking special aim at socialist Sanders’ scheming. MIT Professor Richard Lindzen, for example, blasted Sanders’ efforts to have the Senate declare man-made global warming to be real, saying it was an “attempt to hijack science for political purposes.” Climate change “is of course real,” Professor Lindzen explained to Climate Depot, “change being the normal state of affairs in climate.” In fact, climate change “has caused catastrophic problems on occasion throughout the earth’s history,” he continued. “While man may have contributed somewhat to climate change in recent years, his contribution to the above is highly questionable, and continues to be debated.” In the case of Bernie Sanders, “a socialist, he is undoubtedly dreaming about nationalizing the energy industry,” Lindzen concluded. “For the U.S. Senate to accept guidance from Sanders’ bizarre dreams is ludicrous.”
Of course, half-baked political schemes masquerading as “science” have a long and tragic history of inflicting death, misery, starvation, horrifying abuses, and widespread destruction on humanity. The Western world’s pseudo-scientific eugenics mongers seeking to “purify” the human gene pool, for example, produced everything from National Socialist (Nazi) extermination programs in Germany and mass sterilization schemes worldwide, to tax-funded abortion giant Planned Parenthood, founded by racist eugenicist Margaret Sanger to eliminate people she described as “human weeds.” Under the mass-murdering regime ruling the Soviet Union, Lysenkoism led to mass executions of real scientists and other horrors. Today, “global-warming Nazis,” as former NASA senior scientist for climate studies Dr. Roy Spencer referred to vicious alarmists, are pushing policies that would devastate the poor and potentially cause millions of deaths. Similarly, in unhinged rants, more than a few alarmists have proposed jail, re-education, and even execution of those who disagree with their warming theory.
Despite the escalating levels of hysteria pushed by the administration and the UN, a solid majority of Americans still rejects the man-made warming theory in polls. Establishment-backed alarmist candidates for Congress were trounced in the recent November elections, too. The fact that so many U.S. senators are so out of touch with the Americans they purport to represent, though, is hardly a surprise. Still, even with about half of that body apparently caught up in the climate alarmism, any United Nations “climate” regime would require at the very least two-thirds support to be ratified. Yet even when Democrats were in full control of Congress, they could not pass Obama’s much-touted “cap-and-trade” scheme to redistribute wealth from poor- and middle-class Americans to the establishment. Even so, Americans who cherish liberty, national sovereignty, the Constitution, energy, and economic prosperity must not become complacent. The warmists and their billionaire globalist backers do not plan to let up. The American people cannot afford to either.
That collection of congressional liars, thieves and sexual deviants would turn our little galaxy into a black hole if they even tried.
It was hilarious to read how many in the media fell for this!
Even some conservative media swallowed it and tried to use it to divide our side.
I have long suspected that many of those who claim to be “conservative” are nothing more than agent provocateurs trying to divide us against our own.
Why are Republicans wasting time with the Democrat agenda?

It’s the United States Senate we’re talking about. Wasting time is what it does.And that’s a good thing.
No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while Congress is in session.
I think some loony Dem got it in as an amendment of the keystone pipeline bill to get people on record for or against climate change, and they turned it right back around.
It’s actually pretty impressive...although I agree with you. Get on with the important business of the day.
And as we all should know practically all of the news people in the mainstream media are rabid marxist/democrat political activists who took jobs as news reporters in order to fundamentally transform the U.S. into a socialist hell hole. These “news” people cherry pick a few out of the trillion daily events to make them news to shape public opinion. The news reporters ignore IRS scandal , the 9 trillion $ Obama added to the debt, government corruption , Executive amnesty, countless Obama scandals. but the news media give massive coverage to “global warming will destroy the world”, ebola, any mass shooting, a football player hitting his wife in an elevator, a football team under-inflating footballs, cosby, any hollywood celebrity dying etc.
Now is the time for hearings. The Senate should call up all of these “scientists” to testify how they plan to save the erf. The Senate can even agree with them about man made global warming.
I just want to hear about their solutions as well as what their mitigation strategy is in the event they “overcool” mutha erf. It also wouldn’t hurt to hear how they plan on reducing global warming in the US when China is ramping up their coal industry.
Would make for a fun week.
With respect to the idea that humans are causing harmful changes to the climate at this very moment, I am waiting for some peer-reviewed papers that propose what the optimum climate is for our biosphere. The first question that would naturally flow would be where is our current climate and trend in relation to this finding.
Strangely, nobody seems interested in this vital comparison. Not so strangely, the solutions that are frequently demanded in the most urgent voice, all converge on a socialist worldview: statism, bigger government, higher taxes, less personal liberty, even fewer people. That bigger picture tells me all that I need to know about “climate science”.
I don’t want them balancing squat, as if they COULD. I want them reducing the SIZE of gov’t., taking an axe to where a scalpel was threatened...the balancing can come after the Republic is restored.
