Al Sharpton: What would King have done?
Washington Post ^ | January 19, 2015 | Eli Saslow

Posted on 01/19/2015 1:57:18 PM PST by MeshugeMikey

l Sharpton held a holiday breakfast for 300 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., where the goal was not so much to remember the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as to pull his teachings into the moment. “What would he have done?” Sharpton asked, as the crowd watched a video that combined some of King’s greatest speeches with recent footage of protests in Washington and Ferguson, Mo.

Two members of President Obama’s Cabinet spoke about the importance of health care and low-income housing, but the crowd’s ovation was loudest when Sharpton showed a slideshow that included photos of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Michael Brown — all unarmed black men who were killed in confrontations. Martin was shot in Florida in 2012 by a member of a neighborhood watch. Garner died last summer after being placed in a chokehold by a police officer in Staten Island, and Brown was shot by a police officer in Ferguson in August.

“We have to keep these issues in front until we resolve this,” Sharpton said. “We are in another pivotal moment, and we will be judged by how we respond now.”

The real question is whether King, if he was alive today, would have marched in a jogging suit and gold chains with a bouffant hair style.

I disagree. I believe King would have ended up the same way as Charlaton and Jackass.

We all wonder what Dr. Martin Luther King would have done. I suspect that he would be appalled at the direction his people have traveled in terms of fatherless children out of wedlock, crime statistics, the entitlement mentality, lack of faith, joblessness, abortion, drug use, and unjustified demands for more freebees.

Today's volatile race relationships are the opposite of his dream of judging people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. The wrong direction was catalyzed by government entitlement programs.

The courageous Dr. Martin Luther King would be crying in despair at what his people have done to themselves in their abject failure to implement his dream. We applaud King for his dream.

Each black man killed was a fearless thug on drugs mindlessly confronting armed law enforcers. Why?

Good guess is that Sharpton praises MLK publically but despises and resents him privately.

If King were alive today and commenting on black culture and protests, Al Sharpton and friends would be shouting him down as an Uncle Tom. The only reason they revere him today is because he can’t speak for himself anymore.
