The Legend of Chris Kyle [American Sniper]
Dallas Magazine ^ | April 2013 | Michael J. Mooney

Posted on 01/19/2015 8:49:17 AM PST by Star Traveler

There’s a story about Chris Kyle: on a cold January morning in 2010, he pulled into a gas station somewhere along Highway 67, south of Dallas. He was driving his supercharged black Ford F350 outfitted with black rims and oversize knobby mudding tires. Kyle had replaced the Ford logo on the grill with a small chrome skull, similar to the Punisher emblem from the Marvel Comics series, and added a riot-ready aftermarket grill guard bearing the words ROAD ARMOR. He had just [ ... ] moved back to Texas.

Two guys approached him with pistols and demanded his money and the keys to his truck. With his hands in the air, he sized up which man seemed most confident with his gun.

Kyle knew what confidence with a gun looked like. He was the deadliest sniper in American history. He had at least 160 confirmed kills by the Pentagon’s count, but by his own count—and the accounts of his Navy SEAL teammates—the number was closer to twice that. In his four tours of duty in Iraq, Kyle earned two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars with Valor. He survived six IED attacks, three gunshot wounds, two helicopter crashes, and more surgeries than he could remember. He was known among his SEAL brethren as The Legend and to his enemies as al-Shaitan, “the devil.”

He told the robbers that he just needed to reach back into the truck to get the keys. He turned around and reached under his winter coat instead, into his waistband. With his right hand, he grabbed his Colt 1911. He fired two shots under his left armpit, hitting the first man twice in the chest. Then he turned slightly and fired two more times, hitting the second man twice in the chest. Both men fell dead.

It’s a rhetorical question.

It’s easily demonstrated that the article starts with an error.

Doesn’t say much for the credibility of the rest of it.

Yes. I remember that also happening when I saw the movie.

I don’t think, no I “know” you can’t watch movies like these at home and get even remotely get the same feeling from watching on the big screen.

While Ventura may or may not have lied about being a SEAL, he never defamed anyone else to make a few (million) bucks.

Yea, that's it. People are buying the book and watching the film because of the reference to that scumbag Ventura.

Didn’t Ventura get on TV and in newspapers telling a LIE about 9/11.....saying GWB planned it?

Didn’t he trash our military men and their mission WHILE our men were in theater?

Lying Traitor.

I’ve got a good friend who’s a Vietnam vet, special forces. He was involved in a lot of action and is lucky to be alive right now. He was also an instructor for years at Delta Force. He is an expert on any weapon you can think of. He is also a 5th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. This is a bad dude, definitely one you want on your side. He’s 65 years old now and is still as tough as he was when he was 25.

But he’s also the biggest teller of tale tales in the world. He loves to bullshit constantly. He’s “been there, done that” and wants others to know it. That’s how he copes. The original Billy Badass. But he would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it. Some guys that have did a lot in the military are damn proud of it and talk a lot, some talk to much. Some don’t talk at all. It’s their way of dealing with things. We’re all human. RIP to all my brothers that didn’t make it back from whatever war they fought in and God bless the ones that are still fighting the war 24/7. RIP Chris Kyle.

Yup.

Did he get his whackjob Alex Jones loving butt kicked by Chris Kyle? Perhaps not.

I'm not disputing the facts Sir.

I guess Jesse wasn't satisfied with Chris Kyle being murdered by a fellow marine vet with PTSD.

..he decided to continue his lawsuit against Kyle's widow.

I'm just glad Ventura & his lawyers won't get any of her "Sniper" movie money.

On August 7, 2014, U.S. District Judge Richard H. Kyle, no relation to Chris Kyle, upheld the jury's award of $500,000 in defamation damages and adopted the jury's advisory award of $1,345,477.25 in unjust enrichment as "reasonable and supported by a preponderance of the evidence".

The lawsuit was filed a year before Kyle died.

All Ventura wanted was a retraction and a public apology. He only pursued the lawsuit when the Kyles refused.

My point exactly, Ventura continued the lawsuit against Chris Kyle's widow.

What a man.

Good for the lowlife Ventura, I guess. Judges also uphold queer marriage and 0bamacare. So what?

If Ventura had a shred of honor he would have deferred after Kyle passed, but of course he has no honor. Curious you are so compelled to defend the likes of him here.

No arguments with that. Chris was and is a hero. I just think he embellished some of his stories when he didn't have to.

Well, no, actually his entire career was defamation, from his mudslinging demonization of George W Bush and Rod Grams (flawed but decent men by political standards) to his most recent career as a shill of hate-filled, anti-American conspiracy theories.

Sorry, but I have little respect for someone who wrongfully wrecks another man's reputation just to put a few (million) bucks into the famiy's coffers, then doesn't have the guts to admit he lied and apologize for the damage he's done.

Kyle had the chance to make things right, but chose not to. Now, his wife and kids are left to suffer in his wake.

When you mess up, fess up.

Who knows? I would take Kyle’s word over Ventura in a heartbeat....especially since the jury/trial was in Minn, who elected that idiot. Not to mention Al Franken!

Don’t forget he moved to Mexico saying (to Mexican media) it was because US drones are trying to kill him!

A lying wack-job thru and thru.
