Fox has confirmed that it is in talks to revive its iconic supernatural horror procedural, The X-Files.

Speaking Saturday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, Fox TV executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman said they've been in talks not only with series creator Chris Carter, but stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, about the show's revival. Discussions to date have not been creative in nature but logistical; with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson all busy with their own projects, the biggest obstacle facing the reboot could be finding a time frame during which all three are free. Here's Walden:

I noticed that the video quality of NG is much better on the net than it is on MeTv. It looks washed out on broadcast.

I am out in the boon docks of Florida sadly, but two FReepers have posted links where Night Gallery can be watched online, so that is just excellent!

But, hmmm, I don’t know. As a fan of SciFi and Horror, I am probably inclined to agree with you in some cases.

Such as the reboot of the Star trek movies done recently. I really enjoyed those movies, and the special effects were certainly mind blowing.

In other cases though, such as the original Alien and the queen alien in the sequel, and even The Thing with Kurt Russell, I really prefer the old school style effects.

They seem to have a sort of screen presence that CGI lacks, even when it is done extremely well. But at the same time, I also really enjoyed Prometheus, which is CGI heavy.

One of my favorite horror movies though is Frailty. That movie probably had a special effect budget of about 3,000 dollars, and it is excellent. It’s just a well spun, well acted tail. I just love this kind of movie, really because this style takes me back to the Twilight Zone, just a story and its actors. Success relies upon the delivery of a good story there.

Another one of my favorite movies is The Silence of the Lambs. Certainly not big on special effects, what makes this movie for me is the unbelievable power in the acting.

The scene in which Starling relates her running away with the lamb to Lecter is possibly the finest acted scene that I have ever seen in any movie. It boggles my mind every time I see it. It is so good that I am not even sure that those same two actors could redo that scene any better than they did.

Just two actors in a room talking about a subject, and they do so in a way that moves the audience. This is what I treasure in a movie, and it so rare.

Many times I think that CGI just distracts the audience so far away from any such acting that I fear it has become a lost art.

But all that being said, I do still enjoy a good special effects movie too, but not in the way that I enjoy simpler yet better movies like Lambs or Misery for instance. I have seen both of these movies so many times, and could still watch them again and again.

Sorry for the long post, got carried away!

In other words, we’ve run out of new ideas, we lost a fortune on “Utopia,” and we desperately need a hit.

This show had become really awful by the end to its run. The writer had no more ideas and all the episodes ended in disappointment. It was a constant search for something that in the end brought them no closer to finding anything.

It was kind of neat for the first few years. But it needed a grand conclusion that it never obtained. Bringing it back with a bunch of aged cast members would just make it worse than ever in my opinion.

I just used Netflix, can watch them pretty much whenever I want, and don’t need to worry about interruptions.

I would say that if the movie or tv show is well scripted, it will be great, CG or not. But a lot of producers and directors nowadays try the wrong approach, and try to dazzle you while giving you a mediocre or terrible plot, at which point I personally just walk out. In it’s time, the x-files did a great job in some episodes with the lighting and other more primitive special FX that made it something creepy. The creepy part about the X-Files is what you don’t see, not what you do, and when you do, you figure that “that’s got to hurt”!

I liked the X-Files and a reboot might be interesting, but I feel pretty icky about Duchovny after watching part of an episode of Californication a while back. What a creepy guy.

Yeah, I’m guessing if they do this and get Duchovny and Anderson back, they will just be guest starring, introducing some new young agents as the current field team. Seems to be the fad with a lot of reboots.

It would be hilarious if they consulted him on the show, like the Lone Gunmen, but all he ever did was say “it was aliens!”

Still looking good. Actually, she looks prettier in that photo than on the show, since Scully hardly ever smiled.

Her face was rounder/puffier when she was younger. She may weigh less now than then, which really does help some actresses look younger. There’s little evidence of the overdone surgery that many her age inflict upon themselves. Lucky genetics and self-discipline work wonders.
