Manicured lawns contribute to global warming by producing greenhouse gases

London: A new study has recently revealed that manicured lawns are major source of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming.

Grass lawns soak up carbon dioxide, which is stored in the soil after the cut grass rots and so, like trees, they are considered good for the planet. But Dr. Chuanhui Gu of Appalachian State University in the US said that once the energy expended by mowing, fertilizer use and watering are taken into account, lawns actually produce more greenhouse gases than they soak up.

The study is published in the Journal of Environmental Management.

That's what I always thought. 'Course I did attend 12 years of government run schools so there's no telling how much I was taught is actually true.

My spidey senses tell me mowing the lawn is not going to destroy the planet.

Besides, what the hell is wrong with greenhouse gases anyway? What grows in greenhouses? Plants. I thought plants were part of nature and nature is supposed to be good for the planet.

Yeah, if they come out and say "stop mowing your lawn to save the plant", I'm all in!

What a beautiful world the enviro nazis want us to live in — barren, weed-filled neighborhoods. Can we also have rusty derelict cars on cinder blocks and tons of blowing trash, too?

Maybe we should all move to Detroit, buy one of the environmentally correct houses for $1 and bow to Gaia.

If that kid ever showed up on my doorstep, I’d hire him in a heartbeat. But I think that kid died around 1969.

Grass clippings = recycled nitrogen. Are some people really this brain dead?

Please let me know what nitrogen smells like. I have a stuffy nose and can’t smell it.

Plants need nitrogen to grow. Like I usually did, I used grass clippings in my compost. Sure is good for vegetables, when the pile gets used for fertilizer.

It smells like ammonia.

Exactly. Grass clippings, crunched up leaves, crunched up eggshells all make for a good compost pile.

I would make a request, and I recommend, people to compost grass clippings, especially when you put that fertilizer into the grass, why not recycle some of it. We have bigger problems from excess nitrogen fertilizer than we do from CO2, and we still have not fully recovered from it either.

I’m just guessing here, but probably If - compared to the total land area of the world was compared to the amount of “manicured lawn” area it would be like a postage stamp in the middle of the Sahara desert...or less.

Hey. I finally found something of benefit these envirowhackos so let’s not ruin it with facts.

I need to go do some yard work.

You got it wrong ... they don’t care about the oxygen supply - totally irrelevant to the situation of a dying planet baking under the enormous strain of man-caused heat death.

If fewer people have less oxygen, then there will be fewer people, which is a good thing since the planet is way overpopulated and too many are suffering, while others like the Americans are glutinous hogs. And so forth ... you follow the logic ...

Does this mean Al Gore will fire his gardeners and let the weeds grow on his manicured lawn?

Yes, that is an aerial shot of Al Gore's home down below.

” What ever became of hiring the kid down the street to rake leaves?”

My son had his own lawn service business in our subdivision. Was making over 200 a week doing it which was pretty good for a 14 year old. And people were calling him left and right to have him do their lawns.

One day some very nice people came by to talk to us about his business. They casually mentioned that some of his customers weren’t too pleased with the quality of his work and chose to go with a lawn service instead. They also said the quality was suffering because he had too many customers and by their “analysis” 5 customers would be enough.

Meaning. If your son doesn’t stop there could be problems.
