You didn’t make it clear that you were quoting someone else.

That’s generally helpful.

There are three rival power centers in the Texas Republican Party: the Bush family establishment, the Tea Party mutineers, and the Bible-wielding religious right. Cruz has solid footing in two of those factions, the Tea Party and the religious right, but he's anathema to the Bush loyalists. "They'll never accept him," declares Stone. "When he beat their lieutenant governor favorite son, he was written out of the book of life."

A situation that is mirrored in the national GOP with the Bush family being part of the republican establishment without controlling it like they do in Texas. Assuming that they do control it in Texas. I'm not a Texan so I stand corrected if I'm wrong in assuming this paragraph is basically correct.

And BTW, aren't the Bush's basically carpetbaggers in Texas? Didn't they originally ride in from the Northeast?

“When he beat their lieutenant governor favorite son, he was written out of the book of life.”

Turnabout’s fair play: TX voters wrote Dewhurst out of the book of life right back at ‘em.

Getting Texans to coalesce early around Cruz is imperative, but it won’t be easy. We need bumper stickers now.

It may be true in a specific context, such as oral v. written arguments or as a friend of the court. I just don't know. I thought you'd like the question so that you can do the research with which to be certain.
