I make a point of taking my business to places that do NOT have multilingual signs or phone messages, particularly Spanish. I resent having a foreign language foisted on me in my own country.

Up in AZ and NV, lots of luck with that - even McDonald's has dual language. I'm at the point of making up small round labels in red, white and blue with "This is America, we speak English" on them and start pasting them where I can.

On my really cranky days, when I'm in places like Wal-Mart, I'll swap some dual-label boxes around so the the English side faces the customer. (When I worked there as a night-stocker some years back, the Mexican guys were facing them with the Spanish sides out.)

Some people might think those actions are small and petty. I don’t. I think they are an “army of one” protest that needs to catch on. If we can’t make ourselves heard in the legislatures and the courts, we need to make ourselves heard in everyday life, in stores and restaurants, in parking lots and libraries, in whatever ways we can. (Library and bookstore tip: turn liberal propaganda books around so the spine (title) is not visible. Or move them from the political section to the fantasy section.)

Stay cranky!
