Pope Francis has weighed into the debate over freedom of expression in the wake of the religious attacks in Paris, saying that anyone who insults a religion can expect a "punch in the nose".

I’ve noted that very same thing in other posts. That’s the nature of “freedom of speech” per our US Constitution. We must preserve that freedom of speech, and INSULT to the maximum!
That is how I see it too. Manners evolved to diminish bloodshed.

But if you were not a Christian, why would you (in the first place) think that there were errors in your faith?
Why do you reject it?
Do you get to mock but others don’t? Where I draw the line is violence. Violence and lethal responses are unacceptable.
Is your belief in your faith or religion or whatever so weak that you cannot stomach a little mockery of it?
If someone were to mock Jesus at that Charlie Hebdo-like march it would not affect my faith in Him one whit nor cause me to disbelieve in Him.
Do you only want marches where they mock other religions and not yours?
Then you cannot say “Je suis Charlie” as they mock just about everything religion under the sun at that mag.
In a free, rational society, justice requires that one make a moral judgment about someone or something, and then give it what it deserves, which includes one's emotional responses. If a religion like mohammedanism is so irrational and evil that it deserves to be mocked, then it is correct to do so, if it is in one's rational self interest to do so.
But does the 1 Kings example line up with “So in EVERYTHING, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

And how do you know that you would want it done unto you if you were of a differing faith?
How could you know about you, if you weren’t you?
There are two parts to what he said - the being polite or impolite part, directed at folks like us. That's fine. But, then there is the "punch in the nose" part - his way of referring to beheading and terrorism. Thus, he is condoning the latter based on our choice of the former.
If the Socialism and Communism in Pope Francis’ Argentine homeland worked, then, as Pope, he would have some credibility.
Just maybe the lukewarm Catholics who have been voting for liberal ideas will wake up now that they see what a real social justice Pope looks like.

I simply stated that if you 1.) truly are full-bore when it comes to free speech and 2.) attended a Charlie-Hebdo like march that mocked every faith, then you will have to stomach a little mockery of your own faith.
You can choose to not attend that march, but in doing so how could you say “Je suis Charlie”?
Of course it does. If we were following false gods that were leading us to hell, I would hope that others would point out to us our folly before it was too late.
My first thought too.
Terrorism was committed, people were violently murdered and the pope is condemning free speech. He sounds like Obama and Clinton, blaming the Benghazi attack on a video.
So because Francis comes from “Socialist and Communist” Argentina, he is therefore one or both of those, and is thus ObamaLite?
I am unaware of Francis ever teaching that we should follow either of them.
If you have some info that Francis has publicly supported Socialism or Communism then I truly would be more than interested in seeing it.
But that has little to do with this thread...
We either go full bore on free speech and say “Je suis Charlie” or we don’t. It is as simple as that...
Why not, if it’s wrong? Christ did, to the beliefs of both Sadducees and Pharisees. But I guess saying “you err and know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God” must be less than making fun, as far as the pope is concerned.
You see, this is why we must all believe in global climate change and not deny it because it is the high holy religion of the leftards... oops, my bad - I called them leftards.
