I Am Not Making This Up; Venezuela Bans Queues To Beat Product Shortages

There are times when a little piece of news comes in from some far flung corner of the world and it’s necessary to wonder whether one should laugh or cry about it all. So it is with this remarkable story from Venezuela. The wonders of Bolivarian Socialism are so great that governors in some parts of the country have decided to ban queuing. No, really, I promise you that I am not making this up.

Here’s the news about the queuing:

Governors in three Venezuelan states have banned overnight queuing amid huge and sometimes rowdy lines around shops across the scarcity-plagued country.

Shortages of basic consumer products from milk to toilet paper have worsened since a lull in distribution over the Christmas and New Year holidays, prompting many to wait from the early hours on foot – or in hammocks – before shops open.

Socialism fails every time it's tried.

That way they can say there are no long lines waiting for products.

Socialism can only survive if there is repression.

Sounds like something Obama would do.

Kind of like declaring that Obamacare has driven health care costs down because people aren’t going to the doctor as much as they used to.

More like saying unemployment is down because people have run out of benefits so they’re no longer counted. Not unique to The One but so dishonest no matter who’s president.

Same idea as banning price increases to keep down inflation. (Nixon).
Stupid idea, as are all things that interfere with the free market.

From Venezuela El Universal:

Wednesday January 14, 2015 04:21 PM

Venezuelan Vice-President of Food Security and Sovereignty Carlos Osorio asserted that Venezuela relies on enough raw materials in stock to produce and fulfill the needs of the population in January-April.

"The thing is that some people are interested in making us believe there is no food in Venezuela. In Venezuela there is plenty of everything," the official noted.

"We will take any actions we deem necessary under the rule of law," to secure food distribution, he said. In this regard, Osorio called for compliance with the Law on Food Security and Sovereignty.

Carlos Osorio should send his resume to the White Hut.

Julius Caesar would rather have been Chief among a Tribe Wearing Goat Skins and Scalping people for Giggles than a mere Citizen in one of the Advanced Civilizations of it's time.

Plutarch-Having received the government of Farther Spain after his prætorship, he came to a little town in passing the Alps; and his friends, by way of mirth, took occasion to say, “Can there here be any disputes for offices, any contentions for precedency, or such envy and ambition as we see among the great?” To which Cæsar answered, with great seriousness, “I assure you I had rather be the first man here than the second man in Rome.”

With that, I think I finally Understand Liberals/Progressives/Communists, they would burn this country to the ground so long as they could be Kings of the Ashes.

Yet Again, you can't eat gold.

At least in Communist Poland this stuff was avabible at the Pewex Stores.

Yes, my FRiend.

Progressive/Marxist/socialist edicts always (always) create instant shortages.

And, the progressive/Marxist/socialist solution to any (any) problem is to further confiscate freedoms (and wealth and property, where available).

I swerved across a blog written by a woman who had spent the early part of her life queuing-up in Communist Bulgaria.

She wrote of the one day each month that the Glorious State Central Planners would send her village their allocation of menstrual pads for the local pharmacy. All of the women would have to line up early in the morning and kill basically half a day to get their allotment of this necessary item.

Except that the Glorious State Central Planners allocated only one package of 10 per woman. Which was not enough for the average woman to make it through the month. A fact which appeared to have utterly evaded the bureaucracy.

So she described how they’d all go back home, don various wigs and disguises, and get back in the line hoping to double-dip. Even if successful it killed the rest of your day.
