Thanks for the posting that was very succinct and described some of the various designations of Navy ships.
I served in Catapults on a carrier and used to really feel sorry for the guys on the destroyers we could see when we were in really rough seas, as the waves would sometimes completely cover their ships. We were quesey from the stormy seas, but those poor guys must have been heaving in buckets.

The Knox class frigates did not have any aa capability and only one 5 inch gun
CWIS and the 5inch gun are some defense. Not much but a little.
As built Basic Point Defense Missiles (BPDMS) later converted to CIWS. Served on FF 1058 USS Meyerkord.
I was on one of those....
