What if African Americans were as politically unified as our racial attitudes make us appear to be? Suppose, for instance, we did more than believe that racial discrimination exists but actually used our political and economic muscle to remedy race-specific problems?
There are 42 million African Americans in this country with a combined purchasing power expected to hit $1.1 trillion this year. If Black America were an actual nation state instead of just a shaky state of mind, it would have a population slightly less than Spain’s and rank as the 46th-richest nation in the world, according to a statistical profile published in the Atlantic last year.
And yet, African Americans spent much of 2014 on bended knee — pleading for justice, crying for jobs, begging for equal treatment, with President Obama declaring that “a country’s conscience has to be sometimes triggered” to bring awareness to the killings of unarmed black men and boys by police....

Exactly; “black political muscle” is a myth as long as the (mostly non-black) hand that feeds can dictate where they live, where they shop, attend school, etc.
As long as they are in denial about that, they have no political future except as urban livestock for Dems.

This is not gonna end well.
You can forgive all crimes: murder, rape, robbery, drug trafficking - and let all those convicts walk - if you punish only one crime, in the most severest way possible - and that is the abandonment of children. They abandon their children without conscience, and then eventually shoot them dead on the streets - and that is why they will continue to fail.
No amount of social programs or screams of white racism will solve this problem - and therefore it continues.
No media coverage of the most egregious problem facing America, as they wrongfully point to the police and the ‘system’. (The police and prisons are mere reactions to the problem.)
They strain on the gnat, and swallow the camel.....

That is the only source, so I would study LBJ and decide for yourself if you want to believe he actually said it.
My personal opinion, and it is just that, *my opinion*, is that if he didn’t say it, it still represents him (and the majority of the Democrats at the time). Even LBJ’s apologists will freely admit he was a ruthless SOB. An excellent arm twister and back room deal maker. Effective qualities for a Senate leader, they did not serve him so well in the WH.
Ironically, whether he said it or not, it pretty much sums up the Democrat’s game plan and thinking for decades.
I disagree. I think we are at least 2 generations from even the *possibility* that a statistically significant portion of the black vote will leave the Dems.
I don't see the GOPe selling the concept of self reliance to black voters, or anyone else for that matter. And the flip side, I don't believe the GOPe/RINOs can out-pander the Dems or successfully brand the Dems as racists like has been done to the GOP.
We'll find out, that's for certain.
