It's simple.
If Pelosi had a direct family member - a son, or a grandson, or a granddaughter - who might actually be placed in harms way, who's life might actually depend on national secrets being kept out of the hands of our enemies... she would never have allowed this to happen.
But because it's some other parent or grandparent who is going to lose a child as a result of this extremely irresponsible decision, she isn't bothered by the risk.
She can take chances with people's lives for a political payoff (and possibly other more concrete types of payoff as well) as long as those lives belong to people not in her immediate family.
Universal military service means that every member of congress has family members who's "ass is on the line."
