Rick Santorum sounds off on ‘bomb throwers’ Rand Paul, Ted Cruz
Washington Times ^ | January 12, 2015 | David Sherfinski

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania threw a few elbows at several potential rivals for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, calling possible contenders Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas “bomb throwers” with little experience.

“Do we really want someone with this little experience?” Mr. Santorum said, referring to Mr. Paul, Mr. Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, The New York Times reported. “And the only experience they have basically — not Rubio, but Cruz and Paul because I don’t think Rubio is going to go — is bomb throwing? Do we really want somebody who’s a bomb thrower, with no track record of any accomplishments?”

Doug Stafford, a senior adviser to Mr. Paul, told the paper they would pass on responding to the “alleged wisdom” of someone who lost re-election in 2006 by 18 points and who “has spent the time since then trying to convince people to elect him to an even higher office than the one he was booted out of.”

I just saw this upset in the NH Speaker race. Jasper is a long-time Mitt supporter since 07, O’Brien opposed Mitt in 08 and 12.

Not sure it was a factor in the Speakers race, but very suspicious.

I cannot help think that Pence is a lightweight in Prez politics.

Kudos to your gracious good mannered self, naps. I don't always agree with you but I sure admire graciousness and bigness. :^)

Well done. Unlike a certain lout with a name like a three-piece suit but manners like an ill-bred mama's boy. *ahem*

Jasper carried the votes of House Democrats and just enough Republicans to win.

Disgusting and unacceptable. All Republicans should be required to support the party nominee for Speaker, period.

Hey anti 17thers, this is the kind of shite you could expect in Senate races if you got your way.

A doormat calling someone a “bomb thrower” is just an idiot to be taken advantage of.

Thanks for the honest straightforward answer. How about Romney -- if he got the presidential nomination for 2016, would you vote for him?

Not a trick question, honest -- just curious.

If Pataki wants to be useful he can run for Governor again. My toe jam is more likely to be elected President.

I would have to think about that one. A lot would depend on how Romney ran....I mean, Romney is Romney, but if he at least ran a hard campaign against the left, I might consider that.

Having said all of that, I don’t think there’s much chance of a Romney nomination or a Santorum nomination.

Got any thoughts as to who might be the nominee? I think it's going to be either Romney or Bush, but what do I know? Hell, I was blindsided by McCain in 2008, but have to admit that Romney was easier to see coming in 2012, I expected his nomination.

Agreed, finny.

Naps and I have had differences of opinion, too...but it takes a gentleman to admit a mistake and apologize.

As for the other one, the pompous windbaggery hit the cartoonish level a long time ago.

“Compared to my numerous private sector pursuits”....LOL!

That’s the same stunt we endured in TN not so long ago with a treacherous RINO getting the Dem caucus to elect him House Speaker (as a puppet for the former Dem Speaker). They get their brief shot at power, but in the end, they’re ultimately distrusted by both sides and never move beyond that post.

Cruz control. Mark it down.

I hope you're right.

At this late date, less than two years out, especially after you and I together, with passionate mutual dismay, watched Gingrich go down in flames in 2012 -- I'm less sanguine. I expect the GOP will continue its leftward course in accepting three or more of the Democrat cornerstones of government oversight of health care, wage controls, forced acceptance of open homosexuality, abortion on demand, gun control, usurping of charity with amoral welfare entitlements ("compassionate" government), and all the rest of the government leviathan "for our own good," all in service to us, of course.

I tell you true, C. Edmund Wright, that government is only a force, as per George Washington's vision. It is a force established as a servant of the people -- he warned it would be a dangerous servant. In 21st century America, over-use of that government force, politicians wielding a liberal hand with government, turned the servant into a tyrant.

If once again in 2016 Americans are expected to vote for either a Republican or a Democrat agent of that tyranny or else be "irrelevant," if you're wrong and the Republican party does what it did in 2012 and 2008 (without my input -- in California Republicans have zero say for the party's presidential choice except as a formality), then ...

... well, what then? Because you see, no matter how Romney or Bush or Santorum or Christie "campaign," I already know where they stand; they have records and words and speeches and actions. Frankly, I think it's pretty foolish to expect anything but government tyranny from a guy who is happy to vote for minimum wage increases six times, or happy to use government force to make adoption agencies cooperate with homosexual "parents" seeking to "start a family." Voting for anyone with a standing record of advancing that stuff, is nuts. Plain and simple. I've done it, and am done with it.

The most important question to me is, say Cruz runs and loses for the Republican primary -- can he still run on an Independent ticket? To me, that is the most pressing question in terms of our best bet through the ballot box of turning things around.

A curious thing has occurred to me. I find myself in a party filled with people who are perfectly willing to vote for everything I want to lose.

Why are we in the same party?

Wasn’t one of Rick’s accomplishments helping Arlen Specter win re-election in 2004?
