Just male 3 prong dryer plugs for my 220 outlets ..... HD . Has served me well for going on 22 years now. Very safe system, albeit aside from thunderstorm created loss of power etc...not used a lot.. Just have to turn off the main so I don’t zap a lineman trying to repair by power up the line versus down the line per se etc ....
....looking to install a whole house 32kw backup system that is plumbed to our commercial natural gas line. Kohler has some really nice systems, Neighbor has one and it has held up well. He runs it once a week, PM’s it each quarter per his navy genetics....:o)

No kidding, do NOT forget to isolate the main. Not only is it a bad citizen and seriously illegal for a good reason not to, but you will probably also kick your generator’s breaker if not also fry it with the load of the whole neighborhood.
I looked into the NG systems, too.

I fed mine to a welder outlet that was installed in the garage near the front door. The generator sat beneath the overhang so as to be protected from precipitation, but still ventilated. Fortunes change and I now live in an apartment. But I’d do that again because it is easy and there is a breaker right there to flip. No plugging a hot plug into a socket.
A couple of remove before flight pin flags are on the end of the cord, the generator and a cover on the outlet cover...... Your correct as to responsibility etc ..... good points all !!

Why would the main breaker prevent power from getting in to the house but not out?
I wouldn’t count on it being “once in a decade experience.” And BTW, I live in Norman and we have had to use our generator
several times in the last five years.
If the input mains are open I don’t see how a small generator will feed back to the utility.

I heard people on the radio worrying about food spoiling with no power. Take a look outside. Go under any tree and scoop up infinite buckets of chipped ice.
Put it in your cooler.
1/4” of ice should not pose a huge problem with tree damage and power outages. Scattered, not widespread. If ice accumulation on trees and power lines is higher than that, then you’ll start seeing a real mess.
If you can’t even walk on it, don’t expect a car to be controllable on it. Very bad idea to try to drive until the roads are treated with whatever they use up there.
Hope for an early changeover to all snow or even sleet. That’ll limit any potential damage. A minor accumulation of sleet will slightly improve traction if you absolutely have to try to get out in a car, it freezes to the ice and gives it a rough texture, still no walk in the park so stay put while the roads are frozen if at all possible. Snow on top of ice doesn’t help at all.
Ok it works both ways. If the main breaker, when opened, has an insufficient air gap to provide protection then I am at risk too when I open the man bus b to work on my house circuits. I call total bu!!shit on this one. This is pure poppy cock.

I might add, make sure you have access to radio—battery opp. to keep up with news and weather info in the event that cell towers are affected.
