To: Alas Babylon!

Morning AB, all.

As always, thank you AB for doing this thread and thanks to yonder thread participants for your aid in Sunday political talk show interpretation.

Two big new things in my life this week. Neither is really bad but there is temporary disruption in my normal routine.

I’m at an age when disruption in routine is a big deal.

Got a new puppy and the hard drive on my computer, in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost....died.

Boom....dead. I know a dead hard drive.

Yeah I got a backup but surely you all know a backup doesn
t nearly do it. You got to re-install all the software and you only get five installations of thereabouts.

I am typing right now on my Kindle, on a little teeny keyboard while I have big, fat fingers.

I am going to buy a new computer but here’s my quandry...I AM SICK AND TIRED OF FIGHTING VIRUS’.

It’s a virus here,/malware there. I purchased Norton and it missed a recent `malware` attack. Norton did fix it, had a tech take over my computer and took three hours to fix.

Point is I’m thinking of an Apple computer.

I am so sick of these virus taking over my computer. The recent malware attack killed my hard drive cause that’s what it does.

Any suggestions of a new computer?

Been watching the events in France last week. Also watching General Dempsey, a man who never much impressed me.

Fish, get Best Buy Geek Squad to work on your computer. 3 years for 3 computers for $300 and you have 24/7 service. I have not had a virus since I used them in over 6 years.

Go Ducks!

Hi Pat,

I’ve always used Windows and Office and haven’t had any trouble in years (knock wood). Not sure if this is the case with you or not, but people sometimes forget to turn on automatic updates from Microsoft - they send out periodic updates for security, etc. and it helps a lot.

Apple isn’t immune to virus and malware either and has come under more attacks in recent years. Some say hackers didn’t attack Apple because Windows had a much greater use base worldwide so they attacked Microsoft. Now that Apple has a greater usage (still not as great as Windows), hackers are attacking Apple computers - Apple internally was attacked last year.

I really like the Microsoft Surface - it’s a laptop and a Tablet - lightweight and portable. The new one is a little pricier, but the last version is fine and is on sale at many places: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Surface-Pro-3/productID.300190600?tid=Ae0vNJgZ_dc&cid=5250&pcrid=2644190571&pkw=microsoft%20surface&pmt=e&WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=pointitsem_Microsoft+US_bing_5+-+Surface&WT.term=microsoft%20surface&WT.campaign=5+-+Surface&WT.content=Ae0vNJgZ&WT.source=bing&WT.medium=cpc

How old is your computer??
The hard drive on my Toshiba Sattelite died. swapped in a new SSM drive. My Computer guy charged me $40 to format and transfer files.

The processor was always strong.
My computer is like new!!

I run Microsoft security essentials, and malwarebytes about once a month

If you buy a new pc set up a standard user account for yourself. Use that for everyday use and keep the administrator account for administrator purposes.
