Associated Press Takes Down “Piss Christ” Image After Complaints About Censorship Double Standard
Slate ^ | Jan. 7 2015 | Ben Mathis-Lilley

The Associated Press is among the numerous news outlets that have been self-censoring images of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that may have provoked Wednesday's deadly Paris attack. In a statement, the news organization said that such censorship is standard policy:

None of the images distributed by AP showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. It’s been our policy for years that we refrain from moving deliberately provocative images.

The conservative Washington Examiner publication then pointed out that the AP nonetheless continued to carry an image of Andres Serrano's 1987 "Piss Christ" photograph—which is certainly provocative, having been the subject of massive controversy in the United States, and which was actually vandalized by Catholic protesters when it was on display in 2011 in, as it happens, France. (See the damaged photo, which depicts a crucifix submerged in the artist's urine, above.)

Some time after the Examiner's post, the AP appears to have taken the "Piss Christ" image off its website.

I used to work with an editor that thought the AP was infallable and honest. He really believed that it was like on TV and he was a vet of the biz. The day we got the memo that henceforth, opinion was approved for/in hard news articles, I was hoping he’s quit.

He didn’t.

So the answer to censorship is to make it more widespread. Cowards.

Can you recall when that happened? I mean, what year.

"Fair’s fair..."

That's a slippery slope...censor this or censor that instead...you've then accepted that the "censorship is acceptable" premise is correct.

The AP will take it down and find some other anti-Christian tripe to replace it.

Like their adulation of Obama.

I suppose the Book of Mormon will be leaving the stage. The Church Lady from NBC, and any and all reproductions of Saturday Night Live, etc.

See, that’s the thing. AP’s bluff gets called, and what do they do - censor. What they should have done was publish the cartoon.

Instead, they are letting the entire camel into the tent.

Publish the cartoon, or the propaganda gravy train is going to come to a halt!

No, that's the answer to fear of getting your a$$ killed.

The AP - like the rest of the MSM - had no fear of the Catholics and other Christians whom they outraged with their "Piss Christ" images.

They were able to accept accolades from their MSM echo chamber about how "courageous" they were, while everyone knew full well they had nothing to fear from Reagan, or Meese, or Jim Watt, or any of them. They made them out as a bunch of right-wing boogiemen when they were nothing of the sort.

But let an actual dangerous opponent show up, and their private parts draw up into their bellies so fast you'd think they were yo-yos.

F the muzzies, F all religious and other zealots. Censorship is always wrong. If you don’t like fhe message, then avert your eyes and use the power of the pulpit to persuade.

I knew the media was full of leftist liars when I witnessed the lies first hand during that famous “Summer of Mercy” protest. They flat out lied — all of them. When it was not an out right lie, it was a total distortion. It was not just different perspective. For example they purposefully waited until the event was almost over and the crowd had thinned out, filmed the empty seats, and then way under reported the turnout. They distorted item after item. It was shocking. I will never trust them.
