'They p***ed him off': Conservative Republicans lose committee assignments in retaliation...
The Daily Mail ^ | January 7, 2015 | David Martosko

Iron-fisted U.S. House Speaker John Boehner is moving quickly to punish conservative Republicans who tried to oust him Tuesday during the biennial leadership election.

Hours after the contentious vote, Florida Rep. Daniel Webster – who actively campaigned against Boehner and persuaded 12 GOP members to support him – found himself left off the membership list of the powerful House Rules Committee, where he served for the last two years.

Rep. Rich Nugent, a fellow Floridian who voted for him, suffered the same fate.

'My philosophy,' Webster told reporters after he heard the news that he had been bumped from the committee in a vindictive move, 'is don’t burn any bridges, don’t make it personal.'

'But that's not everybody’s philosophy.'

[BIG SNIP]

......Boehner and his aides had promised in the run-up to Tuesday's mini-drama that there would be no recriminations.

'Boehner has said publicly that there will be no retribution for "no" votes,' his spokesman Michael Steel told The Daily Caller last week.

The speaker also told USA Today in September that no Republicans would lose their committee assignments if they opposed him.

'I just don't think it's necessary,' he said then.

But he also predicted that 'very few' would defect. The 25 who bolted on Tuesday – the largest such group in a century – appear to have changed his mind....

'My philosophy,' Webster told reporters after he heard the news that he had been bumped from the committee in a vindictive move, 'is don’t burn any bridges, don’t make it personal.'

The real leaders and real representatives of the voters are those with the courage to vote for someone other than Boehner. If all Boehner has is to withdraw party support and refuse to schedule legislation for vindictive reasons, then he may not be in control. He certainly is not carrying out the wishes of his voters.

In decades of voting I have never wondered about what committees the candidate served on, or legislation that was passed. The question I asked myself was is this candidate a good man or woman who put forward an effort to do the right thing.

The implications of the anti-Boehner votes is a sea change against corrupt and dishonest politicians who represent not the wishes of the vast majority of voters. Will Boehner lead or continue to follow?

It is plain WRONG to pass legislation without even reading it. Is there any difference between Republicans and Democrats--degree of corruptness?

Gowdy is nothing but a chest thumping media whore. He never met a camera he did not love.

Yep. I’m telling ya; true statesmen like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Louie Gohmert and Daniel Webster are few and far between. 90% of the people in The House and the Senate are political whores.

I don’t want Pelosi as Speaker. I don’t want Boehner as Speaker, or the gop in power even more.

I want the gop to die. It is occupying space, and taking oxygen that is better used by a true conservative party.

So yes, I would rather see Pelosi as speaker. I am through trying to “fix” the gop.

This South Carolinian is gravely disappointed in Trey Gowdy.

We expected Boehner to be a vindictive Beltway SOB, but not betrayal like this.

God bless you, Louie Gohmert! You give us hope, you brave Texan.

That vote should be BLIND, it has nothing to do with legislation. Talk about intimidation. It is so corrupt up there it is sickening. Mark Sanford (R-SC) voted for Boehner...from a super-conservative district ...why? Go back to the primary and you will see Boehner endorsed him. There was the red flag and we missed it.

“.....In a scathing statement, Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), who didn’t vote for Boehner two years ago but supported him on Tuesday, described the vote as a poorly executed “mutiny.”

He criticized the members who ran against Boehner for not doing so in November, when Republicans met behind closed doors to choose their Speaker.

“That was the time to fight,” he said of the November vote. “But not a single person ran against Boehner. Not one. If they had, we could’ve had a secret ballot to find out what the true level of opposition to John Boehner was.”......

The RNC needs to have a coup. I am going to tell the Hillsborough Republican Committee that we should tell the national party to back conservatives, and FIGHT Dems, not us.

“I’m over voting for the lesser of two evils and it appears others are trending in that direction too. If they launch Jeb, the number of no shows will be mind numbing. “

I agree, but I think the ‘no shows’ should do more than stay home. They should band together, nationally, like the Oath Keepers.

I understand your Post, Giles, and I’m sure 99% of the FReepers agree with you. It’s past time for the Conservatives to do to the GOP what the Republican Party did to the Whigs in the mid-1800s; form a new Party and drive the GOP into oblivion. Within 10 years, the Whig Party was totally defunct, and the GOP had a man in the White House named Abraham Lincoln.

All of Trey Gowdy’s constituents need to let him know that you are pissed (if you are) because he did not even have the ba**s to show up and vote on the Speaker of The House election. What a disappointing p.o.s. he has turned out to be. Contact his office and tell his staff that you can’t wait to vote for his Primary opponent in 2016.

Hmm... Two Florida conservatives were tossed from committees. Florida, why Florida? What could possibly be coming out of Florida whereby two conservatives need to be marginalized?

Perhaps there is a bigger reason behind this. Is it possible that maybe, just maybe this has something to do with Jeb Bush and the Florida GOP? Maybe a message to Florida conservatives that if they go against Bush and the establishment in 2016 they will be destroyed?

The only “difference” he has with the ‘rats is about who gets to spend what part of the multi-trillion dollar budget of the ever growing government.
