I think it’s similar to a write in.

One thing is for sure, if you name someone other than Boehner, that is one less vote for John boy.

I don’t know. I was wondering that myself as I haven’t read anything about it. Not sure if it acts like a “Present” or “abstain”, thereby decreasing the majority of votes needed by Boehner; or, if it decreases his chances for a majority like it would if someone that was nominated was voted for.
